Saturday 4th Febuary, 2017

For our second concert of the year we are delighted to welcome back Amanda Rheaume and her band to Town Hall Live.
Amanda, from Ottawa, is an award winning artist with a powerful, slightly gritty, deeply personal and instantly accessible folk-roots sound.
Her increasing success in Canada, Europe and the UK stems from her ability to translate personal stories into messages, evoking a feeling of positivity to connect with her listeners.
In July, 2016 Amanda released her fourth album 'Holding Patterns', which contains twelve descriptive songs some of which champions her native Indian heritage (Red Dress, in particular), whilst 'The Day The Mountain Fell' tells the incredible survival of her two year old cousin from a landslide.
Amanda is a star in Canada, having performed at opening and closing ceremonies of several top sporting events.  She has spearheaded Bluebird North's songwriting showcase and performed for troops in Afghanistan.  In 2014 she was awarded the Canadian Folk Music Award and was nominated for a Juno award for her album 'Catch A Fire'
In November 2016 she toured Germany and Holland and now she is back in the UK for a 16 date tour.  She will be joined by ace guitarist Anders Drerup and Anna Ruddick on electric and upright bass.
Support will come from Pocklington teenager Daisy Allen, who released her debut EP 'Drift' in the summer of 2015, when she was just 16.

DANNY SCHMIDT

performing at

 TOWN HALL LIVE,

KIRTON

on

Saturday 26th

 September, 2015

Named by the Chicago Tribune as one of the 50 most significant songwriters of the last 50 years, DANNY SCHMIDT from Austin, Texas has amassed a cult following for songs that possess stunning poetic and poignant imagery.  Drawing comparisons with Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen, Danny is considered a pre eminent writer, an artist whose songs conjure up magic from the mundane.
His songs are lyrically rich and finely crafted.  They accentuate the narrative, they celebrate subtlety.  They are filled with nimble wordplay and cool cadences, they move with the light feet of a dancer, but in their tone and theme, they contain weight, depth and substance.
Live, his guitar playing is exceptional and a voice that is distinctive and mellifluous.
Everything about the man is gentle, except for his insight is crushing.

For his latest UK tour he will be joined by his wife CARRIE ELKIN on harmony vocals.  Some of you may remember Carrie from her headline THL concert in September last year.  The tour will celebrate the release of Danny's latest CD 'Owls, which is the follow up last year's beautiful duo album with Carrie 'For Keeps'.
Support will come from Harrogate singer and keyboardist Vicky Whelan.  Last year Vicky recorded her latest EP 'Closer To The Sun' with her band Dragonfly Tattoo.  It boasts a haunting blend of fragility and strength.
Advance tickets are priced at £12.  Tickets can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com

A triple bill starts off the autumn programme; headlining is Dallas, singer songwriter Andrew Combs who will be supported by Matt McCloskey and Amanda Rheaume.

Andrew will be on a short UK Tour and will perform as a trio. Combs, who now lives in Nashville is part of a renaissance of country folk inspired by the great tradition of artists like Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and Mickey Newbury.

Andrew is every inch a star with his long hair and demeanour. His songs cover the standard subjects of women, drinking and heartbreak but he makes them sound fresh and interesting. Every song tells a story. He is blessed with a lovely throaty delivery, very reminiscent of Jackson Browne or Don Henley.

No Depression  magazine are quoted as saying ‘Just when you think you have heard the best of the up and coming Americana stars, along comes one whose music takes your breath away’, they are not wrong Andrew Combs is a star in the making; he embodies the best qualities of East Nashville ever expanding talent pool which includes Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell, Rod Picott. Eric Brace, Peter Cooper and The Wild Ponies.

Andrew is bringing with him singer songwriter, Matt McCloskey.

Matt is a singer/songwriter from Austin, Texas who has released two critically acclaimed albums, ‘These Times Won’t Last’ and ‘The Hard Rains.’  He is known for cutting lyrics and truthful performances. His songs explore themes of pain, hope and freedom.

The main support act is The Amanda Rheaume trio.

Amanda is from Ottawa and is a powerful vocalist with just a touch of grit and an instantly accessible roots/pop American sound.

Her latest album ‘Keep A Fire’ is a varied and evocative collection of mostly story song about her ancestors. Amanda’s song writing style provides the perfect vehicle to get her narrative across, whether she’s playing solo or with a full band. The song is invariably the attraction.
