Topic Record report that Martin Simpson is not a man to sit still for very long.  Undoubtedly one of the hardest-touring musicians on the UK folk/roots circuit, he also averages a brand-new studio album almost every two years. ‘Skydancers,’ his 12th full length solo record for Topic since 1992, comes hot on the heels of last year's guest-packed collaboration with the American producer/guitarist, Thomm Jutz, ‘Nothing But Green Willow: The Songs of Mary Sands and Jane Gentry.’
 
Recorded by Tom Wright and Andy Bell in Simpson's hometown of Sheffield, ‘Skydancers’ collects new, Simpson-penned originals alongside 18th century broadside ballads and reverent reworkings from the songbooks of, amongst others, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Woody Guthrie, Nancy Kerr, June Tabor and Craig Johnson.
 
Skydancers' title track, commissioned by TV presenter and naturalist, Chris Packham, highlights the plight of the endangered Hen Harrier – ornithology, a keen interest of Simpson's.  Elsewhere he narrates the life and times of Billy Waters, a black, peg-legged man who became famous busking in London in the nineteenth century.  'Roger's Cascade' is a very personal, jaunty, 5-string banjo homage to master instrument craftsman, Roger Bucknall

Simpson is joined on ‘Skydancers’ by American pedal steel maestro, Greg Leisz, Andy Cutting on diatonic accordion, Louis Campbell on acoustic and electric guitar, Liz Hanks on cello, Ben Nicholls on string bass and a bevy of accompanying singers.   ‘Skydancers’ will be available as a double CD, vinyl album and to download/stream.  Those pre-ordering from Propermusic.com (only) will also receive a limited edition ‘Skydancers’ guitar pick and signed postcard.    Tracklisting :

The Black Keys unveil smooth-soloing new single, It Ain't Over

Guitar World report that The Black Keys have released It Ain't Over, the second single from their upcoming 11th studio album, Dropout Boogie.

Written by guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney in tandem with Reigning Sound's Greg Cartwright, the track follows the LP's first single – the bouncy, groove-driven Wild Child – and features a markedly more soulful and relaxed feel and arrangement.

Driven throughout by a brooding bassline over Carney's mid-tempo stick work, It Ain't Over expands in the choruses with expansive synth swells, and features occasional pockets of blues guitar magic, including a fuzz-bathed passage at the 2:10 mark and some loose-time licks from 3:06. Dropout Boogie is set to arrive via Nonesuch Records on May 13, one day before the 20th anniversary of the band's debut LP, The Big Come Up. It follows last year's Delta Kream, a covers album in which Auerbach and Carney offer new renditions of classics by R. L. Burnside, John Lee Hooker, Big Joe Williams and more.

They hired a quiet old schoolhouse by the sea, sat in the dining room, lit the fire, opened a bottle of wine, set up a few mics and played. Nothing pre-arranged. No big ideas. No pre-production. No thought of releasing anything from it. Nobody else around. Simply playing the songs they’ve known for years; savouring all the energy and emotion they carry.

Bryan Adams Announces New Album and UK Tour

Bryan Adams has a new album on the way, and he's released the first song from it.

Set for arrival on March 11, So Happy It Hurts serves as the Canadian singer-songwriter's 15th album and will be available in CD, vinyl and digital formats, along with a deluxe CD and hardbound book. A limited-edition box set featuring exclusive colour vinyl and a signed photo can be preordered now.

Next year, the 'Heaven' hitmaker will embark on the 12-date 'So Happy It Hurts' UK headline tour, which kicks off on May 13 at the Brighton Centre, and includes a stop at London's The O2 arena on May 26.

The run is set to wrap at the picturesque Blickling Estate in Norfolk.

The Pre-sale starts at 9am on October 13, and general sale tickets will be available from 9am on Friday (15.10.21).

Crowded House are back with new single "Playing With Fire", which is the third track to be lifted
from their first album in 11 years Dreamers Are Waiting.

"Playing With Fire" follows previous releases "To The Island" and "Whatever You Want", and is teamed with a Simon Mark Brown-directed video.

Neil Finn says of the track, "This song was formed out of a Crowded House jam, live in the studio but then evolved its character through many twists and turns during quarantine in 2020. "Playing With Fire" carries within it the contradiction I often feel on joyous occasions, the presence of hope together with an impending sense of doom."
