Eddi Reader Wednesday 30 Apr 2014 8pm @ Lincoln Drill Hall

Eddi Reader was brought into the limelight with Fairground Attraction and their single ‘Perfect’ and parent album First of a Million Kisses which both topped the British charts. However, it has been her subsequent solo albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. From the traditional to the contemporary, Eddi brings to joyous life all forms of song and what sets Reader apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance; her ability not only to move the listener but to connect her experience to that of her audience. Her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism combine with an astute and pragmatic nature to make her a unique and powerful figure in contemporary British music. She has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers.

Introducing Bob Malone Rock n Roll, Blues n Soul.

What have John Fogerty and Bruce Springsteen got in common? BOB MALONE!

Bob is one of the most exiting blues artists touring today.
Los Angeles based Bob Malone plays keyboards with Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame legend John Fogerty, and continues a long running and very successful solo career. His sound is a one-of-a-kind hybrid of blues, rock, and New Orleans R&B, delivered with high-energy piano virtuosity and soulful vocals unique to Bob. He headlines over 100 shows a year in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia, and has played with or opened for Bruce Springsteen, Rickie Lee Jones, The Neville Brothers, Rev. Al Green, Dr. John, Leon Russell and many others.
For 2013 Bob performed at the UK Glastonbury Music Festival, and a month long July tour of Italy. Bob is also a regular at the prestigious WWOZ Piano Night at House of Blues in New Orleans, featured along with piano legends like Marcia Ball and Henry Butler. He is the featured keyboardist on the new John Fogerty album “Wrote A Song For Everyone” where Bob performs on the brand new John Fogerty song, a revamped “Lodi” (recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London) where Fogerty duets with Bob Seger, Miranda Lambert, and Keith Urban.

Bob’s TV appearances with John Fogerty include The Late Show with David Letterman & The View. Bob’s own music is heard regularly on Dr. Phil, Entertainment Tonight, the Rachel Ray Show, and Bob has also been a twice-featured performer on The Price Is Right.
Bob Malone’s six CDs have earned Top-20 spots on the Living Blues, Roots Music Report and Earshot radio charts, and are played on stations worldwide, including Sirius/XM’s Bluesville, and NPR favorites Car Talk, Acoustic Café, and Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour. Bob Malone is endorsed by Hammond Organ and Fishman AcousticTransducers. Bob next album release is scheduled for early 2014.

“A keyboard wizard.” The New Yorker
"John Fogerty's five-man backup band was slouch-free, too — with the show-stealer trophy going to a shaggy-haired Bob Malone." Edmonton Journal

“A new peak in what’s been a rather mountainous career, Malone’s latest shows off everything that makes him great and more. Great songs, amazing production and playing, it doesn’t get much better than this.” Filter

Look Out For Curtis Eller’s American Circus Coming To the UK March - April 2014.

Look Out For Curtis Eller’s American Circus Coming To the UK March - April 2014.

The craziest, yodelling banjo player this side of New York. It's Vaudeville, it's Folk, it's Comedy, it's Song & Dance, it's the one and only Curtis Eller and his American Circus.

Having spent a decade toiling away in the musical sweatshops of New York City, banjo player and songwriter, Curtis Eller uprooted his family and resettled in North Carolina where he is diligently pursuing his goal of becoming America's leading purveyor of songs about Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon!

The wild-eyed vaudevillian’s banjo-driven, rock & roll songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one. Past recordings have seen a ghastly parade of historical luminaries, from Abraham Lincoln and Buster Keaton to Amelia Earhart and Joe Louis, sharing the spotlight with a host of Civil War generals and corrupt 19th century politicians.

The latest incarnation of the band has spent a year sharpening their skills in the burlesque houses, beer halls and underground theatres of the Carolina Piedmont. After touring the US, Europe and Canada relentlessly, the time has come for Eller and the band to descend into the Carolinian song-mines to begin unearthing material for their next phonographic recording.

This time listeners will be treated to a fresh collection of show tunes, dance fads and gospel music whose lyrics are populated by two-bit prize fighters, Hollywood has-beens, grave-robbers and forgotten pop-stars. There's a fictional campaign song for Herbert Hoover, and at least one song about the filth and corruption of the Chicago meatpacking industry of the 1890's.

Band Line-up (USA & UK):

Matthew Rheeston: Drums

Lou Reed Remembered to be on BBC TV This Weekend!

Uncut Magazine reports that Lou Reed Remembered will air at 9pm on BBC Four this Sunday [December 15] and will include
contributions from Reed's former Velvet Underground bandmates Mo Tucker and Doug Yule plus Thurston Moore and Debbie Harry.

Berlin guitarist Steve Hunter, novelist Paul Auster and photographer Mick Rock will also speak about Reed while Trash actress Holly Woodlawn will also appear.

A BBC statement about the documentary reads: "With the help of friends, fellow musicians, critics and those who have been inspired not only by his music but also by his famously contrary approach to almost everything, the documentary looks at how Reed not only helped to shape a generation but also helped to create a truly alternative, independent rock scene, while also providing New York with its most provocative and potent soundtrack."

Larry Garner with the Norman Beaker Band Booking for May June 2014

TOURING EUROPE & The UK  MAY / JUNE 2014
Larry Garner with the  Norman Beaker Band

Larry is a five-time Blues Music Award nominee, for Most Promising Artist, and for Contemporary Male Blues Artist and he was inducted into the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame in 2002.

The BBC has honoured Larry as its Bluesman of the Year, and he has been honoured as Blues Songwriter of the Year three times as well as being twice named Bluesman of the Year Award by Real Blues Magazine.

"If you haven't discovered the blues brilliance of Larry Garner, then you should jump on this bandwagon. These are blues for today, good to the last note stuff." - Big City

Larry Garner has found a true musical soul mate in British blues veteran Norman Beaker. Garner may have paid his dues in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while Beaker cut his gigging teeth in northern England with people such as Alexis Korner , Jack Bruce, Jimmy Rogers and BB King.  Put the two of them on stage together, and they are definitely drawing from the same musical roots. Garners powerful vocals and expressive musicianship make him a natural front man his songs are delivered with a sense of irony with lyrics that are both meaningful and amusing, added to this Larry has a wonderfully expressive voice, is a fine guitarist and a great performer.

Larry was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he picked up on the Swamp Blues music popular in that area, inspired by artistes such as Silas Hogan and Clarence Edwards, he has won just about every award including WC Handy and BB King awards Like Larry, Norman’s songs are also full of social comment and modern day situations, this is a coming together of two modern day Troubadours with something new.

SIEBEN (Matt Howden)

SIEBEN (Matt Howden)
Matt lives in Sheffield, in the north of England. He has produced 11 studio albums, his latest 'Each Divine Spark' is due for release in early 2014. He has made string arrangements and remixed for many artists across the world, composed music for film and TV, dance companies and exhibitions. He has made over 1,500 live appearances in 30 countries and is published by Universal.

"Insistent, pulsating, passionate and dramatic, Sieben weaves a spell with violin and voice. Drawing up songs like a shamen from live loops and soaring melodies, he cuts an elemental figure swaying to the beats generated by the impact if nails, skin and stubble on the body of his chosen instrument. His lyrical demonstrations of love, lust, madness and pagan wonder draw an ever growing audience from the North Sea to the steppes. He has performed everywhere from alpine castles to the cellars of Moscow. Increasingly in demand for film scores, his atmospheric music is now coming to the attention of audiences in his native land. Prepare to be awed." (Andy Whitehouse)
