Jimi Hendrix - The Day I Was There by Richard Houghton, has just been published by This Day In Music Books. Running to over 450 pages and with hundreds of images, including several previously unseen pictures of Jimi, it contains over 500 unpublished first hand fan accounts of the great man in performance.

The book tells his story from his pre-fame days on the chitlin' circuit to his very last official performance at a festival in Germany, and captures the Jimi Hendrix story in a way it's never been told before. The publishers have put together this video which gives you a taste of what the book contains:

MOISHE'S BAGEL - New Touring Dates for 2019

Thrillingly original Klezmer, Roots & Folk Music...MOISHE'S BAGMoEL - New Touring Dates for 2019

Moishes Bagel 1
Moishe's Bagel
Thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer, roots and folk music from some of Scotland's finest musicians. An intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances. Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, Moishe's Bagel combines the energy and passion of world folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation. Boasting some of the best instrumentalists that Scotland has to offer (Salsa Celtica, Camille O'Sullivan, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Eliza Carthy, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra), they are equally at home jamming in a late night jazz den, grooving at a forest folk festival, or enthralling an upmarket concert hall.
"exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation ... the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train" - The Herald
"this brilliantly accomplished and adventurous five-piece emphatically puts the "class" into "unclassifiable" - The Scotsman
Pete Greg smaller
Moishes Bagel
In the 15 years they have been together, pianist Phil Alexander, violinist Greg Lawson, accordion player Pete Garnett, bass player Mario Caribe and percussionist Guy Nicolson have developed an instant musical chemistry that captivates audiences with its highly original, deeply involving sound – rooted in folk traditions of the world.
The result is a thrilling and
evocative sound that can truly
transport a listener. Each Bagels
concert is a journey filled with
joy, excitement and raw
emotion that leaves
every audience member with
a feeling that they have witnessed
something magical and truly
greater than the sum of its parts.
Moishe’s Bagel’s sound is hard to categorise in the best possible way! Each member brings unique sensibilities to the group.
A driving klezmer groove from Phil, rootsy Scottish folk and tango stylings from Pete, classical virtuosity and power from Greg, inspired Latin jazz flavours from Mario…all brilliantly complemented by a richly unique percussion sound that
includes Indian tabla and Middle Eastern darabuka from Guy.

For her first UK tour, Alice will be accompanied by the world renowned bassist and acoustic guitarist Freebo, who has played with Bonnie Raitt, Neil Young and Loudon Wainwright and may other top stars.  He is also an award winning songwriter and producer.
Antje Duvekot says of Alice Howe 'I could listen to her sing for hours. Her voice is a clear as a bell and classic in that Joan Baez way, transporting and wistful.  Alice's musical mastery and musicality are beyond her years and her songs stay in your head for days'

MATTHEWS SOUTHERN COMFORT to Kirton.

The lead singer of Matthews Southern Comfort is Iain Matthews.  Iain grew up in Scunthorpe and on leaving school he worked for Jack Tighe's in Kirton.  Now he is back.
He left Scunthorpe in 1967 to seek fame and fortune in London.  He was a founding member of Fairport Convention and was their lead vocalist on their first three albums.  He moved on to form Matthews Southern Comfort, exploring his interest in American music.  In 1971 the band has a No. 1 hit with Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock'
Iain went on to have a successful solo career in America and went on to form and play in Plainsong, before relocating to Holland in the 90's.
Never one to dwell on past successes, Ian reformed MSC simply because he didn't feel he got it right the first time.  The new band features an all Dutch line up of incredible musicians.  There is renowned guitarist, song writer and producer BJ Baartmans on guitar, Bart De Win on keyboards and singer song writer Eric Devries on guitar and harmony vocals.

Fire & Rain at Moon on the Water Cleethorpes Thursday 4 October

Fire & Rain,
(The Music of James Taylor & Carole King)

Moon on the Water, 203 North Promenade - Cleethorpes 7.30 pm -Thursday 4 October

Fire and Rain is not a tribute or sound-a-like act.  It’s simply a collection of five of the best musicians from the North of England coming together to play music they love.  Expect the classic James Taylor & Carole King songs played with skill, passion, emotion, humour and humility.  Incredibly in-demand musicians in their own right, Tom Townsend (The Tom Townsend Blues Band) Rich Adams & Mark Gordon (Stony), Paul Tilley and Bob Walker abandon their usual bands and projects for this one-off tour to bring the joy of Taylor & King’s music to you in what they call a ‘magical musical holiday’.

Joining them on stage will be the award winning singer and songwriter and musician, Gracie Falls, with Alex Staples accompanying Gracie on acoustic guitar.

‘Fire and Rain’ hope that you will join them to celebrate the music of two timeless singer songwriters and performers in what will be a memorable evening of first class entertainment.

Tickets for the event are £12 and available from the venue (203 North Parade DN35 8SJ) – 0784951898
