Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”

Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”

Kurt Vile stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thanksgiving evening to perform his cover of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” by John Prine. Watch the full performance below.

Instead of doing the traditional introduction to segue into Vile’s performance, Meyers actually told a brief, personal story before passing the microphone over to the musician. “My family loved John Prine and we booked this act because we thought it would be a perfect song to listen to together on that couch,” he said. “Now we can’t be together, and it was unplanned, but this is a perfect song for anyone who’s not with their loved ones this year.”

Vile’s rendition of the song is a faithful, yet emotional, spin on Prine’s original version. Basked in the soft glow of an overhead light, Vile takes his time fingerpicking his way through the track, letting his voice curl around each vocal slide with the slightly pitchy delivery he’s known for — and the result of which makes for a rather tender cover of “Speed

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas Album Beats BTS to UK Number One

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album beats BTS to UK number one

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album has denied South Korean boy band BTS the UK number one spot.

Ball and Boe have gone to the top of the chart with Together At Christmas.

It has sold more than 31,000 copies on CD, which counts for much more than streaming in the chart calculations.

BTS have had two UK number one albums in the past two years, but their latest release, Be, had to settle for entering this week's chart at number two.

Together At Christmas is Ball and Boe's fourth album of duets following Together, Together Again and Back Together.

The new album includes covers of such seasonal songs as It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas, Silent Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and a new track titled My Christmas Will Be Better Than Yours.

Ball said reaching number one was "the greatest early Christmas present we could've wished for".

Power Up by AC/DC is in third place.

Catfish - New Live Album Out Next Week: Exile - Live in Lockdown

Catfish - new live album out next week: Exile - Live in Lockdown

Exile – Live in Lockdown – Catfish’s new live double disc package of CD and DVD will be released on 1 December 2020.

Like all other musicians, all of Catfish's dates had been cancelled or rescheduled, both in the UK and Europe. As the situation eased off slightly in the summer, the band were approached by Blues Maastricht Festival in Holland to do a full band live stream. Catfish jumped at the opportunity to play live and loud as a full band! Watch the video below for a taste of the show!

"A true lockdown masterpiece full of anger, frustration, defiance and hope" Will Carter, Two Finger Media

Catfish found a great venue and tech team to put the live stream together and the broadcast went out live across Europe. The band had not played together in over 5 months. Despite this, they decided to forgo any rehearsals, so the excitement and energy would be palpable and apparent. And it really is! It’s an hour’s live show with no audience in the room due to restrictions in place at the time, just a skeleton crew of talented technicians. We hope you enjoy this live recording. It’s not something that was every planned but, if anything, it’s a snapshot of 2020 and of the excitement and elation of Catfish reuniting with the stage in the midst of some dark times.
