John Mayall To Release ‘The First Generation’ Limited Edition 35 CD Box Set

John Mayall To Release ‘The First Generation’ Limited Edition 35 CD Box Set

For nearly six decades, John Mayall’s name has been synonymous with the blues, especially in England. The man responsible for spotlighting young blues guitarists like Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor, as well as future superstars John McVie and Mick Fleetwood in his Blues Breakers line-ups, Mayall is the Eveready Bunny of the blues, still going and going at the age of 87.

His cumulative discography, including studio and live LPs and compilations, totals somewhere around 100 albums, and he’s also released dozens of singles. Now, through what must have been years of painstaking mining of archives and headphone time, the Madfish label of Snapper Music Ltd. has released the deluxe 35 disc box set John Mayall – The First Generation 1965 - 1974 .

With a pressing limited to 5,000 copies, this massive collection demonstrates how prolific Mayall was in his early years, though he certainly hasn’t slowed down since. The collection includes newly remastered versions of 19 of Mayall’s albums, from 1965’s John Mayall Plays
John Mayall  through 1974’s.

he Last Edition with the exception of 1969’s Primal Solos, an archival album whose songs are included as bonus tracks in other discs on this box set.The incredibly productive Mayall himself is a multi-instrumentalist, playing keyboards, harp and guitar, in fact playing all of them on the 12 tracks of his 1967 album The Blues Alone (included in this box set), recorded when multi-tracking and overdubbing were still in their infancy. He got started relatively late in life, recording his first album at the age of 31 after he’d been playing professionally for nearly a decade. A onetime art student, Mayall is also known for having designed many of his own album covers and carving his guitar bodies into works of art.

The box set was put together with John’s full cooperation. It contains: - 35 discs, including 3 CD Singles & 8 previously unreleased discs, alongside newly remastered versions of the original Decca & Polydor albums

- Seven previously unleased live recordings, including Windsor 1967, Gothenburg 1968, Berlin 1969 and San Francisco 1970, among others

- 28 unreleased BBC tracks, featuring Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor

- An autographed photo

- 168 page coffee table book including rare photos, posters, and memorabilia, written by Neil Slaven

- 128 page hard cover book of newsletters, interviews, band member biographies, tour updates and all kinds of fascinating details from The Official John Mayall Fan Club, including images of letters sent out by its first secretary, Doreen Pettifer

- Two replica posters: Ten Years Are Gone and the official poster from the 1968 tour

- Replica press pack for John Mayall Plays John Mayall

The First Generation Box Set will be released on January 29th, 2021 on the Madfish label through Snapper Music.

UK Independent Venues Week - 25 to 31 January 2021

Forced to shut by various lockdowns, and otherwise faced with the prospect of trying to operate on a financial shoestring due to social distancing, an already precarious industry has been pushed ever close to the brink.

It all means that it’s more important than ever to support and celebrate our favourite gig spots — and Independent Venue Week is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Going digital for the first time, the seven-day series will feature an array of live-streamed gigs, online Q&As, radio shows, quizzes, film screenings and more, all reminding us just how important it is to protect smaller venues.

By championing these venues, we are able to highlight why they are so much more than just places for live music – they are cultural hubs for learning, creativity, arts and culture more widely connecting people

Tim McGraw Strippin’ it down - “Something Like That”

Tim McGraw Releases Stripped-Down Acoustic Version Of 1999 Hit, “Something Like That”

When it comes to Tim McGraw classics, you know… before he had the 6% body fat, “Something Like That” might just be at the top of my list.

Written by Rick Ferrell and Keith Follesé, it was released in 1999 as the second single from McGraw’s A Place in the Sun album. Topping the country charts, and doing well on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, it was the MOST-PLAYED radio song in any genre from 2000-2009. Pretty damn impressive for a country song, eh?

And now, Tim is breathing new life into the ’90s country classic, releasing a stripped-down acoustic version of the fan favorite.

Edinburgh Festivals 'Optimistic' About Making a Comeback in Summer 2021

The Scotsman reports that Edinburgh's festivals have revealed they are pressing ahead with plans to return this summer - despite the cancellation of Glastonbury and huge doubts over whether restrictions on live events will be lifted by then.

Organisers of the city’s flagship events say they are “optimistic” they will be able to bounce back after they were all called off last April.

Council chiefs said they would be doing all they could to “support the sector and its recovery as safely and as quickly as possible.

However it could be months before the scale and form of the city’s cultural extravaganza is known.

In recent years, the summer festivals have been worth more than £300 million for the economy.

The Tattoo has been selling tickets for this year’s show since October. Tickets for EIF shows normally go on sale in the spring, while the book festival usually launches its programme in June.

Fringe venues have been able to sell tickets as early as January in recent years, however the final programme is not normally launched until June.

Atlantic A&R Exec Dallas Martin Named President of Asylum Records

Billboard have reported that Dallas Martin will be leading the Asylum Records imprint going forward.
Warner Music Group said on Thursday that Martin will over oversee the label as co-president alongside Gabrielle Peluso, while continuing on as executive vp of A&R at Atlantic, where he has worked with Roddy Ricch, Meek Mill, and the late Nipsey Hussle, among others.

Based in Los Angeles, the Flint native will report to both Eliah Seton, president of independent music & creator services, WMG and Craig Kallman, chairman & CEO, Atlantic Records.

Commenting on the appointment, Seton praised Martin’s "unflinching commitment" to his artists and described him as the "consummate A&R" who is "not only able to spot great talent but nurture that talent by spending endless hours in the studio crafting hit records. That’s exactly the sort of artist-first philosophy that we’re cultivating at the new Asylum."

Australian Rockers Wicked Smile Release Their New Single 'Killer At Large'

Australian heavy rock band Wicked Smile have roared into 2021 with a brand new single titled ‘Killer At Large’. This follows on from their 2020 debut ep titled ‘Delirium’ to very favourable reviews.

The new single is again produced by Paul Laine (The Defiants) and mastered by Bruno Ravel (The Defiants/Danger Danger).

Guitarist Stevie Janevski goes on to say, “last year was all about giving the world a ‘taste’ of what we’re about. We’re a five-piece kick ass heavy rock band and I think we made our presence known with the release of our Delirium ep”.

The new single ‘Killer At Large’ will no doubt be another talking point with its bombastic wall of sound. Vocalist Danny states, “this is my favourite song so far. It’s heavy, yet melodic and the song fits in perfectly with what we’re about. The energy from the entire band is amazing”.
