New Jazz 5 Presents the Karen Sharp Quartet

With Karen Sharp on tenor saxophone, Nikki Iles on piano, Dave Green on double bass & Steve Brown on drums. Since graduating from Humphrey Littleton’s band, Karen has developed into a major artist who is very much in demand judging by her busy touring schedule. She brings her new Quartet to the Drill Hall as part of an extensive UK tour, when she fronts what must be the to-die-for rhythm section of British jazz. Karen has a warm, singing tone, a melodic flair and a great sense of swing.

In 1971 Led Zeppelin released one of the greatest albums of all time - Led Zeppelin IV. To celebrate the LP’s 40th anniversary Whole Lotta Led will be performing their special Led Zeppelin IV show. The first half features songs from the band’s vast back catalogue while the second half is the whole of Led Zeppelin IV played in the same sequence as the original LP, including, 'When The Levee Breaks', 'Going To California' and the all-time classic 'Stairway To Heaven'. This superb 21 piece orchestra was formed in 2007 to play original compositions by rising jazz star James Hamilton. By May 2010 the Orchestra had released their first album ‘The Causeway Suite’, with musical influences from Duke Ellington to Kenny Wheeler. The album subsequently went on to win the 2010 British Composers Award and Big Band of the Year. This is a band that enjoys and celebrates playing in a style reminiscent of the American big bands of the 50s and 60s, with brilliant arrangements that fully exploit the instrumental weaponry available from 21 players! Plus pre-show music with Komposit in the CafĂ© Bar
