Julie Mclelland and BFCH are an original Celtic folk band with 7 critically acclaimed albums, published works with Cherry Red Records and over 2000 live performances as part of their history. Live gigs have seen them play from the smallest of venues to outside arenas and most notably their own show at The London Palladium. They have appeared with bands such as The Levellers, The Stranglers, UB40 and have supported Stiff Little Fingers, Hayseed Dixie, The Beat and most recently, New Model Army on national tour dates. Major festivals appearances include Wychwood Festival, Rhythm Festival, Weyfest, The Bearded Theory Festival, Galtres, The Acoustic Festival of Great Britain and The Great British Folk Festival, amongst many others.

In 2017 BFCH won the public vote at The Great British Folk Festival for the best ‘new act’ which saw them play on the main stage to a capacity crowd.

In 2019 BFCH are invited to headline Stramash as part of The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

TOWN HALL LIVE FRIDAY 14TH FEBRUARY 2020 AMY SPEACE with support from ALI SPERRY 'Amy Speace's songs hang together like a short story collection, united from a common vantage point and common predicaments.  It is a gift to hear a heart so modest even when it is wide open,' Nashville based Amy Speace is a timeless, classic singer and songwriter.  She has one of the richest and loveliest voices and her songs are luxuriously smart.  Since her discovery in 2006 by folk pop icon Judy Collins, Amy has been heralded as one of the leading voices of the new generation of American singers.  From her beginnings in New York as a classically trained actress with the National Shakespeare Company, Amy started playing her own songs in Greenwich Village Coffee Houses, before moving to East Nashville in 2009. Since then she has released six critically acclaimed albums, the latest of which 'Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne' is just superb. Amy has played at Glastonbury, The Cambridge Folk Festival, and most recently The Long Road Festival.  She is also a gifted writer and has published essays in the New York Times,  The American Songwriter and other high profile magazines.   Now Amy embarks on her latest UK tour to showcase 'The Ghost of Charlemagne'.  Her THL concert is the last of five dates. Sun 9th	Horncastle Winter Market.  To celebrate this afternoon Old Nicks is having an Open Mic Afternoon, we invite all our regulars from our Wednesday session and any other musician that would like to join in.  Back line will be provided (1 x bass amp, 1 x guitar amp plus drum kit).  All other instruments to be provided by musician.  Guitarists are welcome to bring their amp so long as it is not massive!!  12pm Noon start.
