New Jazz 5 presents The James Taylor Quartet

New Jazz 5 presents
JTQ – The James Taylor Quartet + Gareth Lockrane
At Lincoln Drill Hall Friday 15 June 8pm
JTQ make a triumphant return to Lincoln following their previous sell-out gigs at the Drill Hall. The bands Hammond organ driven blend of jazz, funk, R&B and swinging beats make them one of the most distinctive and important crossover acts in British live musical history. From their fired-up signature tune ‘The Theme from Starsky and Hutch’  through their many covers of 60s film themes such as ‘Alfie’, ‘Mrs. Robinson’, ‘Blow Up’, and ‘Goldfinger’  to scoring the theme tune to ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’,  they constantly produce swinging, high energy live shows that are not to be missed.

At the Drill Hall gig the quartet becomes a quintet as with award winning flautist Gareth Lockrane adding another flavour to the mix. Tickets: £16 (£14 concessions / £8 students) 01522 873894

Justin Currie In Concert @ Lincoln Drill Hall

Justin Currie In Concert @ Lincoln Drill Hall
Saturday 12 May 8pm

The Scottish singer/songwriter, most famous for his role as founder member and front man of Del Amitri, is currently working as a successful solo artist. Justin Currie's music is dominated by strong imagery and storytelling, powerful yet understated vocals and a sound that, whilst firmly rooted in nineties pop-rock, translates beautifully into modern, urban ballads. With influences from Nick Cave, Crowded House and Mark Lanegan, his music is hauntingly dark, yet refreshingly uplifting.

Tickets: £20 in advance (£22 on the day)

Great Music @ Lincoln Drill Hall This Weekend

Don’t plan anything for this weekend until you have checked what’s on at Lincoln Drill Hall!
On Friday evening at 8 pm NewJazz 5 present the Dennis Rollins ‘Velocity’ Trio

Generally acknowledged as the most exciting, entertaining and talented trombonist in Britain today, Dennis honed his skills with the National Youth Jazz Orchestras before joining Courtney Pine’s pioneering ‘Jazz Warriors’. The ‘Velocity’ Trio places Dennis alongside the funky drumming of Pedro Segundo and the groovy organ of Ross Stanley. A very cool evening! Tickets £14 (£12 concessions / £8 students)

On Saturday at 8pm the Drill Hall present Kieran Goss

Last seen on the Drill Hall stage in February when he supported Fairport Convention, Kieran Goss has long been hailed as one of Ireland's leading songwriters and performers. But if his songs have made him a star, his live shows have made him a legend. Live on stage is where Kieran Goss really shines. “The sense of fun is tremendous, the playing first rate and the songs are sheer quality. The encores were genuine, but only because the man is too.” The Irish Times Tickets: £12 in advance (£14 on the day)

Was This The Best Drill Hall Gig Ever?

Was This The Best Drill Hall Gig Ever?
Wilco Johnson supported by Virgil and the Accelerators April 21 Lincoln Drill Hall.
What a night we had at the Drill Hall. Wilco Johnson with sidemen, Norman Watt-Roy (bass) and Dylan Howe (Drums) all on sparkling form. The sound mix was spot on and the lighting was just what you’ve come to expect at this venue.

The show kicked off the show with a storming set by power rockers Virgil and the Accelerators.
Wilco Johnson stormed through a set including favourites such as Down By The Jetty, Roxette, Sneaking Suspicion and Sam The Sham’s Wooly Bully. There were two encores, firstly an extended version of Chuck Berry’s Bye Bye Johnny and finally Rote Sixty Six.

Could this have been the best Drill Hall Gig Ever?
