Coronavirus: Isle of Wight and Download Festivals Cancelled

It has been reported tha bot rhe Isle of White and Download Festivals have been cancelled for 2020.
Duran Duran and Lionel Richie were due to appear alongside Supergrass and Kaiser Chiefs at Seaclose Park, Newport on the Isle of Wight.
At Download, Kiss, Iron Maiden and System of a Down were the headliners due at Donington Park.
Both festivals had been set to take place in mid-June.
Organisers of both events are looking to give those who have already bought tickets refunds or the option to carry their tickets forward to next year's event.

Liam Gallagher demands Oasis reunion to help NHS 'when all this is over'

Liam Gallagher has once again called for an Oasis reunion, issuing a "demand" for it to happen to raise money for the NHS once the coronavirus outbreak is over.

The younger Gallagher brother, who has long been calling for the group to reform, has been posting regularly on social media throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, sending messages of support and funny videos to encourage fans to wash their hands.

His latest message on Tuesday brought up the much longed-for Oasis reunion once again.

He said he was "sick of pleading" and added: "I demand an Oasis reunion after this is all over", saying all proceeds should go to the NHS.

Within two hours, the tweet had received more than 60,000 likes and 10,000 retweets.

Bill Rieflin, REM drummer dies aged 59

Bill Rieflin, a drummer who played with bands including REM, Nine Inch Nails and King Crimson in a career spanning more than 30 years, has died aged 59.

According to social media posts by friends and artists he worked with, Rieflin died after being diagnosed with cancer.

Rieflin, a Seattle native, often served as a long-term auxiliary member, rather than a full-time part of any of the bands he became involved with.

Before leaving for a North American tour with King Crimson in 2017, Rieflin told Rolling Stone about his additional role on keys: “There was a question of four drums up front, which is still in the world of possibility. However, for this tour, I said, ‘Why don’t I just play keys?’ My skill level is not at the highest, but I’m capable

UK Music Demands More Help for Self Employed Hit by Coronaviras

UK Music Acting CEO Tom Kiehl has called on the Prime Minister to offer more help for the self-employed hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Reacting to the package of measures outlined by PM Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak today, Mr. Kiehl said:

“While we welcome the much-needed help for those who are traditionally employed, the Government’s proposals fall far short of the lifeline needed by the self-employed in the music industry and creative sector.

“The Government should urgently look at setting up a Temporary Income Protection Fund for self-employed workers and freelancers.

“The self-employed make up around 72% of the music industry and are a vital part of its success.

They should be offered the same help as other workers who will get 80% of wages up to £2,500 a month if they cannot work due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Many self-employed are facing an immensely difficult time and are worried about putting food on the table, paying their rent or mortgage and other bills.

“The Government has talked about doing the right thing.  It must now do the right thing and help protect the self-employed and freelancers.”

Country Musix Legend Kenny Rogers has died, aged 81

It has been announced that country music icon Kenny Rogers has died, aged 81.

According to a representative, the singer-songwriter peacefully passed away on Friday night from natural causes "under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family".

After launching his career in the 1950s, Rogers rose to fame in the '70s and '80s with his signature song The Gambler, which won him a Grammy Award in 1980.

His other big hits included Lady, Lucille, She Believes in Me, Through the Years, as well as his duet with Dolly Parton, Islands in the Stream.

The Texas native was a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, a six-time Country Music Association (CMA) Awards winner, and a three-time Grammy Awards winner.

"Country Music has lost the great Kenny Rogers, who has forever left a mark on Country Music's history. His family and friends are in our thoughts during this difficult time," a CMA spokesperson posted on Twitter after the news broke.

Rogers's family is planning to hold a small private funeral service due to the concern over the coronavirus crisis.
"They look forward to celebrating Kenny's life publicly with his friends and fans at a later date," the rep added.
Kenny was married five times and had five children.

Statement by Lincoln Drill Hall on Covid - 19. March 17th.
In light of government advice given yesterday Monday 16th March for people to avoid theatres and to ‘avoid all unnecessary social contact’ we, like most of our sector have been left with no option but to suspend out public programme of events and classes for the foreseeable future. This is an incredibly complex and fast-moving situation and it is with a heavy heart that we have taken this decision but the safety of all the people we work with is our number one priority.

With no timescale known regarding the Covid 19 pandemic we feel that we have to follow the advice given to vulnerable individuals yesterday and therefore initially we will not be presenting any events for 12 weeks - until Sunday 7 June 2020. This includes all shows, participation, workshops and meetings.

We will be in touch in the coming days with all customers, to discuss options with pre-booked tickets and want to thank all customers for their kind words both in person and on social media in the last 24 hours. It really helps to feel that support as a small charity. We will be trying to re-book as many events as we can for a later date and will ensure that we continue to communicate with all customers. We do though recognise that Lincoln Drill Hall is seen as a safe space, used by a number of vulnerable people on a regular basis, therefore at this time our café bar will remain open during normal daytime hours. We would also like to reassure customers that at this time, all events from the 8th June onwards remain on sale and we will keep everyone informed regarding these if the situation changes.

We ask that you bear with us whilst we work through this process in the coming days. This is an incredibly difficult time for small scale theatres, arts centres and artists. We have been placed in a precarious position and will manage it as sensibly and calmly as possible. In the meantime, thank you so much for your support and above all else, stay safe and supportive of each other.
