Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound
of Loneliness”
Kurt
Vile stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on
Thanksgiving evening to perform his cover of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”
by John Prine. Watch the full performance below.
Instead of doing the traditional introduction to segue into
Vile’s performance, Meyers actually told a brief, personal story before passing
the microphone over to the musician. “My family loved John Prine and we booked
this act because we thought it would be a perfect song to listen to together on
that couch,” he said. “Now we can’t be together, and it was unplanned, but this
is a perfect song for anyone who’s not with their loved ones this year.”
Vile’s rendition of the song is a faithful, yet emotional, spin
on Prine’s original version. Basked in the soft glow of an overhead light, Vile
takes his time fingerpicking his way through the track, letting his voice curl

Scottish National Jazz Orchestra to Livestream on 5 December
The SNJO celebrates its 25th anniversary
with a specially curated concert, live-streamed from Perth Concert Hall, on
Saturday 5 December at 2.30pm GMT.
Poets of words, as well as of notes
and of instruments, have contributed to the SNJO’s extensive repertoire. From

Basie to Glasgow’s poet of the tenor saxophone, Bobby Wellins, the inspiration
has flowed onto recordings and stages across Scotland, the UK, Europe, Japan

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album beats BTS to UK number one
Michael
Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album has denied South Korean boy band BTS the
UK number one spot.
Ball and
Boe have gone to the top of the chart with Together At Christmas.
It has
sold more than 31,000 copies on CD, which counts for much more than streaming
in the chart calculations.
BTS have
had two UK number one albums in the past two years, but their latest release,
Be, had to settle for entering this week's chart at number two.
Together
At Christmas is Ball and Boe's fourth album of duets following Together,
Together Again and Back Together.
Ball said
reaching number one was "the greatest early Christmas present we could've
wished for".
Power Up by AC/DC is in third place.
