The Mighty, STATE OF THE UNION (Boo Hewerdine & Brooks Williams) - MARCH 2023
STATE OF THE UNION return with some
new tunes and a rescheduled full tour in MARCH 2023.
Boo Hewerdine and Brooks Williams
aka State of the Union, create a magical, stripped back and enthralling musical
atmosphere with two guitars and two voices. Their performances are consistently
brilliant, equal parts emotive and entertaining. Audiences are still buzzing
about their previous festival main stage appearances.
The two formed their collaboration
in 2011 and created two albums in rapid succession, State of the Union and
Snake Oil. Subsequent tours took them around the UK, to Ireland and Portugal,
including a 14-date stint playing theatres with Eddi Reader and an appearance
on The Andrew Marr Show (BBC 1).
What followed in 2017 is Saltwell Sessions, an album of covers, some obscure and some well-known, including Don’t Blame Me (The Everly Brothers), Halfway (Greg Trooper) and Unforgettable (Nat King Cole). Their 25-date tour that followed saw full houses night after night. Here's another opportunity to catch the brilliant duo.

Guitar World report that The Black Keys have released It Ain't Over,
the second single from their upcoming 11th studio album, Dropout Boogie.
Written by guitarist Dan Auerbach and
drummer Patrick Carney in tandem with Reigning Sound's Greg Cartwright, the
track follows the LP's first single – the bouncy, groove-driven Wild
Child – and features a markedly more soulful and relaxed feel
and arrangement.
Driven throughout by a brooding bassline over
Carney's mid-tempo stick work, It Ain't Over expands in the choruses
with expansive synth swells, and features occasional pockets of blues guitar magic,
including a fuzz-bathed passage at the 2:10 mark and some loose-time licks from
3:06. Check it out below.
Dropout Boogie is set to arrive via Nonesuch Records on May
13, one day before the 20th anniversary of the band's debut LP, The Big Come
Up. It follows last year's Delta Kream, a covers album in which Auerbach and Carney offer new
renditions of classics by R. L. Burnside, John Lee Hooker, Big Joe Williams and
more.
