THE OFTEN HERD ON FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2024 - TOWN HALL LIVE KIRTON IN LINDSEY with The Kirton - in - Lindsey Rock Choir supporting
The Often Herd, from Newcastle, are one of the country’s
upcoming bands. They are Rupert Hughes (guitar & vocals), Evan Davies
(mandolin), Niles Krieger (violin) and Sam Quintana (double bass).
The line-up might resemble an American string band, complete with
driving energy, tight vocal harmonies and dazzling interplay but their vibrant
transatlantic sound is coloured by their surroundings, the striking natural and
industrial landscape of Northern England. Their music is exciting to
listen to. They are tight, virtuosic and dynamic live.
Rupert and Evan write songs steeped in personal experience, drawing from a wide
range of influences ranging from folk, Americana and bluegrass.
Their debut album 'Where the Big Light Shines' was released in June 2022 to
great acclaim.
Flock to The Herd, you won't be disappointed.
As a bonus, support will come from the Kirton – in – Lindsey Rock Choir.

Dear Jazz

that you are enjoying the lovely summer weather that has reached us at last. We
have been working hard behind the scenes to put together a fantastic programme
of music covering the next six months. The details of all these concerts are on
the Key Theatre website where you can buy the tickets. Go to https://keytheatre-peterborough.com/whats-on/ Tickets
can also be bought from the Key Theatre Box Office (01733 852992).
So, for the
first concert of the new season on September 1st, we are delighted to present
an evening of Gypsy Swing. This genre was created in the 1930’s by the genius
gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and brilliant violinist Stephane Grappelli
with their Quintette of the Hot Club of France. Ben Holder's Hot Club Quartet
is without doubt one the very best bands playing this genre and receives rave
reviews wherever they play. Ben is the most gifted and exciting young jazz
violinist in the UK. You can expect unbelievable musicianship alongside witty
repartee from this wonderful entertainer. This will be an evening of
blisteringly energetic and impressive live jazz. Ben will be joined by three
masters of the craft - Jez Cook and Caley Groves on guitars, plus acclaimed
double bassist Mike Green.
Best wishes
Laurie, David and Joe
TWO CONCERTS FOR AUGUST
FRIDAY 9TH - RILEY CATHERALL & EMILY LAWLER
For our first concert we welcome Riley Catherall and Emily Lawler.
Riley is a singer songwriter based in Melbourne, whose graceful trajectory into the Australian alt-country world has not gone un-noticed. He has built a credible status as one of Australia's most promising songwriters through his poetic sincerity and alluring live shows. He released his debut album 'When I Go' in 2022. He released his second album 'The Light, The Beautiful Liar this month. Both contain songs that are beautifully constructed and immaculately delivered.
Riley is probably best known as the lead guitarist and The Wildes. He is in the UK for two months touring with the band followed by a country wide solo tour.
Sharing the bill with Riley will be Emily Lawler. Emily is well known to THL audiences, having played two support lots over the years and more recently with Lachlan Bryan in July. At the latter concert she stunned the audience with her pure, dynamic voice. As well as her own solo slot playing guitar she will also accompany Riley on violin, singing duets and backing vocals.
It will be a lovely evening and one not to be missed,
