Message From Peterborough Jazz Club June 2020
Message From Peterborough Jazz Club June 2020
Dear Friends,
Firstly, I do hope that you have all kept safe over the time of the pandemic, although no doubt many of us have had a difficult time with all the restrictions and problems we have all been dealing with. In addition, a significant number of us being over 70 years old also has brought additional issues to deal with.
We have, of course, kept in contact with our new venue, the Vegan Restaurant Jazz Bar in Westgate Arcade and recently I spoke to them regarding the current situation re social distancing and also we discussed the reduction to 1 metre in the near future. Unfortunately, even with the reduction to 1 metre, it will not be possible for us to promote any concerts at the Jazz Bar, upstairs at the Vegan Restaurant, for the rest of this year at least. As some of you know, the capacity of the Jazz Bar is not much more than 50 and we would normally be looking to almost sell out for most of the concerts there. Of course, with a 1 metre social distance, it will be impossible for us to get anywhere near break even point and until that changes we are, like many clubs, in a very difficult situation.
So, we will all have to make do with radio and our own jazz collection for the meantime. We will keep you updated of course regarding our Club and
when we can look to resume concerts. In the meantime, I and the rest of the
committee hope you keep well and can enjoy the summer months ahead.

The Doobie Brothers 'Listen To The Music' Remake
Rolling Stone Magazine reports that The Doobie Brothers have shared a socially distanced take on their 1972 classic, “Listen to the Music.”
The performance features Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, John McFee and John Cowan, all of whom recorded their parts from their respective homes. Without any percussion or drums, this particular rendition of “Listen to the Music” has an even breezier and lighter feel than the original. Not that it’s without any depth or complexity; McFee’s banjo and Cowan’s bass tumble and rumble beneath the guitars, and all four Doobies combine for some characteristically soaring harmonies.
At the end of the performance, Johnston shares a quick message encouraging fans to donate to the hunger relief organization, Feeding America.

Weezer special guests on The Simpsons
Weezer special guests on The Simpsons...
Following the release of their epic new song Hero a couple days ago, Weezer were special guests on The Simpsons which aired in the U.S.A .UK fans will be able to watch the episode on 22nd May on Sky 1, at 8.30pm.
The episode, entitled ‘The Hateful Eight Year-Olds’, sees Weezer voicing a cover band named Sailor’s Delight, who are the house band on a romantic cruise taken by Homer and Marge.
Some of Sailor’s Delight’s songs in the episode will sound familiar to you, particularly if you were a fan of Weezer (The Black Album) or Pacific Daydream, but one song is completely new: debuting worldwide on The Simpsons, the track is called Blue Dream, and will be featured on the band’s forthcoming album, Van Weezer.
