Bands Wanted For Gig With Scouting For Girls and Lulu

LOCAL musicians and singers are being offered the chance to take to the same stage as Scouting For Girls and Lulu (pictured) at the 150th Birthday Bash at the Lincolnshire Showground.

The event, on Saturday, September 3, is to celebrate the anniversary of Lincolnshire Co-operative, and will offer a chance for stardom, performing in front of thousands.

There will be a contest to decide who will get one of the three coveted slots, and to be eligible for entry, at least one band member must live in or have been born in Lincolnshire or Newark.

Representatives from Lincolnshire Co-op, promoters Liz Hobbs Group and the Lincolnshire Echo will judge the competition. A final shortlist of ten will be placed onto a dedicated microsite and then it's down to the public to watch, listen and vote for their favourite.

There aren't many rules. The bands or artists must be free on September 3 to perform at the event. They can perform their own material, or covers – or both.

Their performances will be for around 20 minutes and all bands must be able to share the same backline.

To enter, all you need to do is send in a CD or DVD and biog of your band to 'Big Birthday Bash, c/o Liz Hobbs Group Ltd, 65 London Road, Newark NG24 1RZ. The closing date is Thursday, July 28.

Two Great Gigs This Weekend

There are two great gigs at Lincoln Drill Hall this weekend.

Friday 22 July 8pm

New Jazz 5 present Joe Stilgoe
This is an opportunity to see and hear a young and incredibly talented British jazz vocalist, who also plays a mean piano. Joe’s singing, his formidable piano technique (which jazz singer Ian Shaw has described as a cross between Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Les Dawson) and his sense of humour have made this young man a favourite with audiences everywhere.
Joe’s playing is so fluent it borders on virtuosity, I am completely knocked out by him in every way’ Steve Ross
Tickets: £14 (£12 concessions / £7 students)

Saturday 23 July 8 pm
Summer Party Night with the Blues Brothers Banned
After last year’s sell out show, high energy ten piece band Blues Brothers Banned are back with another jam-packed night of music and mayhem. Hits from the cult Blues Brothers and Commitments films feature throughout their performance, punctuated with R&B, soul, swing and ska in a quirky mix of classics and contemporary tuneage. The
Blues Brothers Banned regularly play venues and outdoor events all over the UK and have packed out London’s legendary Hard Rock Café and The 100 Club.
Tickets: £12 (£10 concessions)
