Paul Weller Announces a New Album 'Fat Pop (Volume 1)'
The
Modfather's 16th solo LP is called 'Fat Pop (Volume 1)' and will arrive on May
18, following up 2020's 'On Sunset'. It features contributions from The
Mysterines singer Lia Metcalfe, Andy Fairweather Low,
Weller's daughter Leah, and Hannah Peel.
Weller
began writing and recording last spring when his tour dates were postponed due
to the coronavirus pandemic, and completed the record with his band at his
Black Barn studio in Surrey when restrictions were lifted.
“This is as close as we're going to get this year to playing live and for us to play to people. For all of us to get back together was such a joy, and I didn't realise how much I'd missed it until we started playing together again” Paul Weller
With live shows sadly on pause for the foreseeable future, Paul & the band have been busy working out an alternative. Introducing: MID‐SÖMMER MUSIK. A 60‐minute special featuring performances of brand new never-before-heard songs, full band versions of tracks from 'On Sunset' & 'True Meanings', plus spoken interludes from Paul.
The performances were recorded during the summer, at the peak of the heatwave, and it was the first time the full band had been together in nearly 6 months. The show will stream globally online, with different tickets available depending on your timezone/location. After its premiere, it will also be available to watch back for 7 days after so you can watch it at your convenience as many times are you like.
Tickets go on sale this Friday October 16th at 9am. Check out the full FAQs on Paul's website for more info.

March 10 sees Paul Weller release his first ever soundtrack, to the
forthcoming British movie, Jawbone. 'Jawbone: Music From The Film' is a
collection quite unlike anything else from Paul Weller's extensive discography
as you can hear on the album's sprawling 21-minute opener 'Jimmy / Blackout', an
experimental sound collage which provides much of the film's score and
underlying mood.
'Jimmy / Blackout' segues across a variety of different and often dissonant
tones, its eclectic tapestry of sounds flourishes and fractures with choral
vocal harmonies, bursts of droning guitar and the swirl of vintage synthesisers,
but on track 2, 'The Ballad of Jimmy McCabe', we find Paul in more familiar
territory with a beautiful acoustic song, which reflects the situation and
emotional turmoil that's troubling Johnny Harris's lead
character.
