“I never thought I’d
make a Christmas album. For me this time of year is tied up in rituals and
a sense of myth that have been with me since childhood. Locked down and
heading into winter at the end of this year that’s weighed so heavily on
all of us, I found myself wanting to write stripped-back, comforting songs
that captured things about Christmas that I’d miss this year. They’re songs
that hum with the darkness that’s in and around us through the winter –
especially this winter – but hopefully at the same time they’re little
musical hugs that say, ‘yes it’s been tough…life is still beautiful…here’s
a mince pie.”
