A cappella stars The Magnets are one of the must see acts on the current British music scene. Literally a ‘six-man sound machine’, they bring their glorious harmonies and jaw-dropping beatboxing to the Drill Hall for the second time, hot from a first major stage appearance at the Glastonbury Festival and high profile appearances on Comic Relief and the T-Mobile ‘Life’s for Sharing’ a cappella flash-mob commercials. Highlights of the show will include include a sultry Poker Face by Lady Gaga, an electrifying mash up of ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’ by Lenny Kravitz, a sun soaked ‘Girls & Boys’ by Blur, and an incredible medley of movie themes from A-Z, all delivered via a multiplicity of styles and vocal stunts, cool moves and superb theatrics, but absolutely no musical instruments.

Gainsborough Steam Packet & Robbin Grey @ The Hub Sleaford 14 Sep.

On 14th September The Hub in Sleaford will be screening a short film, The Gainsborough Packet, followed by a live set from folk musician Robin Grey (www.robingrey.com).

The Gainsborough Packet is the culmination of a year’s research by Matt Stokes, which began with the discovery of a letter within the Tyne & Wear archive, written by an ordinary man named John Burdikin, in 1828. The letter became inspiration for lyrics, music and film created by Stokes and his collaborators (Jon Boden from Bellowhead and composer Alistair Anderson). The Gainsborough Packet engages with folk tradition, contemporary music videos and popular culture and being produced with a particular sensitivity to the shared legacy of folk music in Camden and Newcastle which stems from Stokes immersive research.

Robin Grey is based in Hackney and has recently returned from a successful tour of Edinburgh's Fridge Festival, where he racked up 12 gigs in just one week! He draws inspired from the timeless work of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Ani Difranco amongst many others.
6pm Start.

Strummerville Calling September 2011

Hey folks,

A little update from Strummerville HQ...

Was great to see so many people at our campfires at Glastonbury and Endorse It In Dorset over the summer and thanks to all the great bands and artists who came to play for us. It's been amazing! - click here for photos

Was a great honour to have so many established acts perform on our tiny stage... my own personal highlight can be seen at this link... http://youtu.be/WlcMT0S9Yfc
Also thanks to everyone who supported us by buying merch out in the fields.
Our music room is almost finished at Tilinanu orphanage in Milawi and this will open next month. We will be doing an appeal for any old childrens instruments so we can send out for the space. Also the lovely people at Lake Of Stars festival have welcomed the choir from the orphanage to come and perform at the festival in October which is a great opportunity for them.
We are currently working on plans for a Strummerville space in Detroit so watch this space for news of that...
Thanks to the great team over at Brothers Cider for their kind support over the summer and to everyone who organised benefits for us – we really appreciate your support.
If you are ‘down under’ then there's two very special benefits coming your way in Sydney and Melbourne:

We recently announced a call to action to support the work we do here, all donations are greatly received and really help us to continue our work.
In other news we have been supporting a lot of new bands with recording and releasing records and are delighted to congratulate Bastille and The Joker & the Thief on their recent releases.
And onwards we go with our work here at Strummerville HQ...
Love,
Trish x
