Here Comes Summer! Some Great Drill Hall Gigs To Look Forward To!!!

Here Comes Summer! There are some great shows coming to Lincoln Drill Hall to get you in the mood!

Now Read On...

Saturday 21 April 8pm
Wilko Johnson
Supported by Virgil & the Accelerators                                                                                               Wilko first made a name for himself when he formed Dr. Feelgood in 1971. Known for their high energy live performances, it was the 1976 live album, Stupidity that was the band’s real breakthrough, reaching No.1 in the official UK album chart. By the time Dr. Feelgood released their fourth album, Sneakin' Suspicion, Johnson had left the group to pursue a solo career, later joining Ian Dury and the Blockheads.
One of music’s true characters, Wilko recently featured in Julien Temple's Oil City Confidential, a full-length feature film documentary about Dr. Feelgood, and has also been seen starring opposite Sean Bean in HBO's fantasy series Game of Thrones.
Tickets: £17.50 in advance (£20 on the day)
Friday 4 May 8pm

Dennis Rollins ‘Velocity’ Trio
Generally acknowledged as the most exciting, entertaining and talented trombonist in Britain today, Dennis honed his skills with the National Youth Jazz Orchestras before joining Courtney Pine’s pioneering ‘Jazz Warriors’.
The ‘Velocity’ Trio places Dennis alongside the funky drumming of Pedro Segundo and the groovy organ of Ross Stanley. A very cool evening! Tickets £14 (£12 concessions / £8 students)

Saturday 5 May 8pm
Kieran Goss
Last seen on the Drill Hall stage in February when he supported Fairport Convention, Kieran Goss has long been hailed as one of Ireland's leading songwriters and performers. But if his songs have made him a star, his live shows have made him a legend. Live on stage is where Kieran Goss really shines. “The sense of fun is tremendous, the playing first rate and the songs are sheer quality. The encores were genuine, but only because the man is too.” The Irish Times Tickets: £12 in advance (£14 on the day)

Thursday 10 May 8pm
The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular
It’s fun all the way as the ‘Purveyors of Cool’ swing into town with a fabulous show featuring some of the greatest songs of the 20th century, including Come Fly With Me, Under My Skin, Mr Bojangles, Lady Is A Tramp, That's Amore, Mack The Knife and many more. Wonderful memories of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Junior in a spectacular production that continues to be successful all over the world. Outstanding tunes plus endless hanky panky and banter, ensure their timeless soiree remains the hottest party around! Tickets: £20

Saturday 12 May 8pm
Justin Currie In Concert
The Scottish singer/songwriter, most famous for his role as founder member and front man of Del Amitri, is currently working as a successful solo artist. Justin Currie's music is dominated by strong imagery and storytelling, powerful yet understated vocals and a sound that, whilst firmly rooted in nineties pop-rock, translates beautifully into modern, urban ballads. With influences from Nick Cave, Crowded House and Mark Lanegan, his music is hauntingly dark, yet refreshingly uplifting.
Tickets: £20 in advance (£22 on the day)

New Jazz 5 presents
JTQ – The James Taylor Quartet + Gareth Lockrane
JTQ make a triumphant return to Lincoln following their previous sell-out gigs at the Drill Hall. The bands Hammond organ driven blend of jazz, funk, R&B and swinging beats make them one of the most distinctive and important crossover acts in British live musical history. From their fired-up signature tune ‘The Theme from Starsky and Hutch’  through their many covers of 60s film themes such as ‘Alfie’, ‘Mrs. Robinson’, ‘Blow Up’, and ‘Goldfinger’  to scoring the theme tune to ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’,  they constantly produce swinging, high energy live shows that are not to be missed.
Tonight the quartet becomes a quintet as with award winning flautist Gareth Lockrane adding another flavour to the mix. Tickets: £16 (£14 concessions / £8 students)

Saturday 16 June 8pm
The Imagined Village
We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting one of the UK’s most exciting bands, for what promises to be a wonderful gig. Their powerful music is inspired by Britain’s diverse cultural heritage and the ten members of the Imagined Village including Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Jackie Oates and Barney Morse Brown are all giants in their fields, playing in other such as Chase & Status, Afro Celts Sound System, Cornershop, Transglobal Underground, The Bays, Dhol Foundation and Red Snapper… Some of the star Villagers will support themselves in duos and as soloists before the main event.
A joyous celebration of English & global culture’ The Times
Please note this is a standing gig. Tickets: £17.50 in advance (£20 on the day)

Wednesday 11 July 8pm in the Room Upstairs
Pennyless
Join one of our most popular Saturday Session bands in our Room Upstairs as they perform a lively acoustic set of sparkling melodies and tunes from Ireland, Scotland, England and America on flute, fiddle and guitar with additional whistle, melodica and motley percussion. Self-penned songs in three part harmony give a glimpse into the very English world of Pennyless who love poetry, trees, birds nests and the moon. Tickets: £5

Friday 13 July 7.30pm
Jazzpac & FLINSO
Jazz Vehicle Youth Jazz Orchestra & Tomorrow’s Warriors Biggish Band
& Lincolnshire school children
Jazz Vehicle is without a doubt one Lincolnshire’s finest musical exports, winning the top award at the National Festival of Music for Youth finals in 2008 and 2010, followed on each occasion, by being invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall. Tonight as well as hearing this incredible group of young musicians, there’ll be music from Tomorrow’s Warriors Biggish Band and the chance to hear primary school children performing music they’ve been working on with Dune mentors, saxophonist Denys Baptiste and pianist Peter Edwards
Tickets: £10 (£8 concessions / students and accompanied children free)

 Friday 20 July 8pm
Limehouse Lizzy
Renowned for an action-packed, pyrotechnic-fuelled explosion of a show, Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy alive and well. The set will of course include both Celtic influenced tracks like ”Whisky in the Jar” and “Black Rose” alongside the classic “The Boys are Back in Town” and “Sarah” plus a tribute to Gary Moore who sadly passed away last year.
Limehouse Lizzy's Wayne Ellis is an uncanny ringer for Phil Lynott...’ The Guardian
If you're sceptical about tribute acts, you won't be after seeing Limehouse Lizzy’  Radio Times

Bill “Watermelon Slim” Homans is an extraordinary blues man and we are thrilled to be welcoming him to the Drill Hall for this special concert. Harp Magazine wrote ‘From sizzling slide guitar…to nitty-gritty harp blowing…to a gruff, resonating Okie twang, Slim delivers personal working-man blues with both hands on the wheel of life, a bottle of hooch in his pocket, and the Bible on the passenger seat.’ Paste Magazine said ‘He’s one hell of a bottleneck guitarist. The most exciting and authentic blues performer I’ve heard in years.’
Don’t miss this chance to see such a master blues man practising his craft!
