Wednesday 6 February 8pm Good Friday: The Clinical Depression Concept Album Show™
In 2009, David Parkin suffered from clinical depression. As he recovered he taught himself how to play the piano and found himself writing an album about his breakdown. Taking to the stage with two talented multi-instrumentalists and direction from New Art Club’s Pete Shenton, David chats between songs and tells us of the breakdown and of the love affair between man and piano that blossomed as he wrote the album. Expect beautiful music, scary music, funny music, a bass, a knife, a glockenspiel, the stars at night, two cellos, extremely dry humour and a large black dog. Falling somewhere between a play with music and a live music gig this event should not be missed! Tickets: £10

Marlene VerPlanck returns to the Drill Hall for an unmissable evening of jazz standards. In her early career she worked as a backing singer for Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Tony Bennett, emerging as a leading solo performer in the 1970s, playing Carnegie Hall to rave reviews. She may be the most accomplished interpreter of popular material performing today...interpretive sensitivity and perceptive choice of songs that can be matched only by a handful of singers.’ New York Times. Saturday 9 March 8pm Gabby Young & Other Animals
The 7-piece Gabby Young and Other Animals was formed in 2008 and the band’s sound & look is as original as it is amazing. Young’s style combines Balkan brass, jazz and swing in a sound that has been affectionately dubbed Circus Swing. As famous for her extravagant costumes as for her soulful voice, her flamboyant show has been likened to Florence + the Machine and Paloma Faith, while her classically trained voice has been likened to that of Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Imogen Heap. This tour is to promote her second album, which is filled with often unexpectedly thoughtful, sophisticated songs that continually switch direction, from cool guitar, accordion or piano-backed balladry to furious trumpet and trombone-backed workouts.
We are playing this a lot because we love it. She is terrific live, a really big wall of sound”. Graham Norton BBC Radio 2 Support TBC Tickets: £10 adv (£12 on the day)

Join us for the best way to celebrate Patrick’s Night…. but don't forget to bring your dancing shoes! Tickets: £8 in advance (£10 on the day)

Larry Garner With The Norman Beaker Band - Now Booking

Larry Garner With The Norman Beaker Band

Touring the UK and Europe March / April / May 2013

American bluesman Larry Garner has found a true musical soul mate in British blues veteran Norman Beaker.   Garner may have paid his dues in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while Beaker cut his gigging teeth in northern England with people such as Alexis Korner , Jack Bruce, Jimmy Rogers, BB King etc ; put them on stage together, and they are definitely drawing from the same musical roots.

Garners powerful vocals and expressive musicianship make him a natural front man his songs are delivered with a sense of irony with lyrics that are both meaningful and amusing, added to this Larry has a wonderfully expressive voice, is a fine guitarist and a great performer.Larry was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he picked up on the Swamp Blues music popular in that area, inspired by artistes such as Silas Hogan and Clarence Edwards, he has won just about every award including WC Handy and BB King awards

Like Larry, Norman’s songs are also full of social comment and modern day situations, this is a coming together of two modern day Troubadours with something new to say."-
