The Voice of the People From Topic Records

The Voice of the People From Topic Records - Four new volumes of classic field recordings
Topic Records is very proud to announce the release of four further volumes in their widely-acclaimed The Voice of the People series.

All four of these new volumes have been selected and researched by Series Editor Dr. Reg Hall from classic field recordings made by Peter Kennedy during the 1950s.

TSCD675 – “Good humour for the rest of the night”
Traditional Dance Music in Northumberland and Cumberland

TSCD676D -The Barley Mow
Field recordings and a film made in Suffolk in the 1950s (CD and DVD set)

SCD677T - The Flax In Bloom
Traditional songs, airs and dance music in Ulster (3CD set)

TSCD678 – Orkney
Traditional dance music from Orkney

The geographical spread covered in these four new volumes illustrates the lengths Peter Kennedy would go to in order to discover the traditional music and dance of the British Isles.

His passion in bringing these to a wider community outside the working rural communities of the people he recorded.

Peter’s aim, presenting the voice of the people, is recognised and acknowledged with this essential addition of four stunning new titles to an invaluable catalogue.

Eddi Reader Wednesday 30 Apr 2014 8pm @ Lincoln Drill Hall

Eddi Reader was brought into the limelight with Fairground Attraction and their single ‘Perfect’ and parent album First of a Million Kisses which both topped the British charts. However, it has been her subsequent solo albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. From the traditional to the contemporary, Eddi brings to joyous life all forms of song and what sets Reader apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance; her ability not only to move the listener but to connect her experience to that of her audience. Her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism combine with an astute and pragmatic nature to make her a unique and powerful figure in contemporary British music. She has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers.
