‘Heavy Future Groove’ Band Lespecial Debut New Single, “Snell’s Fleet”

‘Heavy Future Groove’ Band Lespecial Debut New Single, “Snell’s Fleet”

Self-described “heavy future groove” outfit Lespecial boast on their official band bio that they take influence from J Dilla, Radiohead, King Crimson and Fela Kuti.

That’s quite a diverse array, and indeed, Lespecial are a multi-faceted act that transcend traditional genre boundaries.

On “Snell’s Fleet,” the band’s latest single, Lespecial showcase every bit of that heavy future groove descriptor. “Heavy” is easy to place — distorted, chugged riffs have that covered — while “groove,” in this case, comes not in the form of Pantera power but Primus or Bungle-inspired funk/fusion. As for “future,” well, that’s open for interpretation, but with skilled players who have a knack for composition and an imagination that’s gotten them this far already, anything is certainly possible. Check out “Snell’s Fleet” below. Lespecial’s new album, Ancient Homies, comes out on December 4. Follow the band on Facebook.

ADAM ROSS aka RANDOLPH'S LEAP 'Staring at Mountains' SOLO TOUR NOVEMBER 2021

ADAM ROSS aka RANDOLPH'S LEAP 'Staring at Mountains' SOLO TOUR NOVEMBER 2021

Staring at Mountains is the debut solo album from Scottish singer-songwriter Adam Ross; a sparse and intimate collection of songs which blend tenderness, wry humour and poetry, scheduled for release in Autumn 2021.

We are currently booking tour dates for November 2021. Staring at Mountains presents Adam’s distinctive songwriting at its most delicate, stripped-back and sincere. The majority of the album was recorded in the historic setting of Delgatie Castle in Aberdeenshire and takes a great deal of lyrical inspiration from the Scottish landscape, with song titles transporting the listener on a journey from the Cairngorm mountains to Sanna beach on the west coast.

Adam’s folk music influences shine through on this album which features stunning violin accompaniment from Pedro Cameron (Man of the Minch) and vocal harmonies from Jenny Sturgeon. Human relationships are also at the heart of the album, with Adam taking inspiration from observational songwriters such as John Prine and Loudon Wainright III.

Adam Ross

Adam: “I wanted to present the songs as simply and honestly as possible. No overcomplicated production or digital trickery. Just the songs, sounding the way they sounded when I sat and wrote them beside a warm, glowing fire.”

Since 2010, Adam has been making music as the lead singer in Randolph’s Leap, an indie-folk collective of up to eight musicians known for their joyful live gigs and prolific output. In 2018, the Randolph’s Leap back-catalogue inspired a touring theatre show called 'The Isle of Love' which depicted life on a Hebridean island as told through Adam’s lyrics. In 2020 Adam diversified his songwriting output, releasing a collaborative EP with Gareth Perrie under the name The Polychromes as well as a country-pop album under the pseudonym A.R. Pinewood.

Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”

Kurt Vile Covers John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”

Kurt Vile stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thanksgiving evening to perform his cover of “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” by John Prine. Watch the full performance below.

Instead of doing the traditional introduction to segue into Vile’s performance, Meyers actually told a brief, personal story before passing the microphone over to the musician. “My family loved John Prine and we booked this act because we thought it would be a perfect song to listen to together on that couch,” he said. “Now we can’t be together, and it was unplanned, but this is a perfect song for anyone who’s not with their loved ones this year.”

Vile’s rendition of the song is a faithful, yet emotional, spin on Prine’s original version. Basked in the soft glow of an overhead light, Vile takes his time fingerpicking his way through the track, letting his voice curl around each vocal slide with the slightly pitchy delivery he’s known for — and the result of which makes for a rather tender cover of “Speed

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas Album Beats BTS to UK Number One

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album beats BTS to UK number one

Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Christmas album has denied South Korean boy band BTS the UK number one spot.

Ball and Boe have gone to the top of the chart with Together At Christmas.

It has sold more than 31,000 copies on CD, which counts for much more than streaming in the chart calculations.

BTS have had two UK number one albums in the past two years, but their latest release, Be, had to settle for entering this week's chart at number two.

Together At Christmas is Ball and Boe's fourth album of duets following Together, Together Again and Back Together.

The new album includes covers of such seasonal songs as It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas, Silent Night and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and a new track titled My Christmas Will Be Better Than Yours.

Ball said reaching number one was "the greatest early Christmas present we could've wished for".

Power Up by AC/DC is in third place.
