Imagining Ireland: Martin Hayes - National Concert Hall Dublin - Tuesday 8 December 8pm GMT

Imagining Ireland: Martin Hayes - National Concert Hall Dublin - Tuesday 8 December 8pm

The evolving soundtrack of Ireland, Imagining Ireland showcases the most exciting creative
artists at work today .For this one-off worldwide exclusive stream, arguably our leading traditional musician Martin Hayes leads an evening of authentic Irish music and virtuoso interplay. Performing live from NCH, Hayes is joined by jazz pianist Cormac McCarthy and Brian Donnellan on bouzouki, harmonium  and concertina.'

The sound of a fiddle is is more that just the instrument itself, it is the instrument in relationship to the space in which it is being played; the room is also your instrument. I love playing the National Concert Hall. It inspires me and draws music out of me in a way that allows me to explore the subtle and powerful beauty of the melodies with real freedom. I will be accompanied by two wonderful musicians: Pianist, Cormac McCarthy and Concertina/Harmonium and Bouzuki player, Brian Donnellan. I look forward to exploring these melodies and sharing with you the background, history and stories of the tunes and the people behind them."  Martin Hayes

Rooted in the classical, folk and contemporary worlds, Martin Hayes  founded the seminal Irish-American supergroup The Gloaming, whose self-titled debut album won the Meteor Choice Music Prize for Best Irish Album. Their global touring has included more than a dozen shows at Dublin’s National Concert Hall as well as performances at London’s Royal Festival Hall and Barbican. Hayes has collaborated with everyone from Bill Frisell and Yo-Yo Ma to Sting and Paul Simon. Hayes' long-term creative partnership with Dennis Cahill also saw the duo perform for President Obama at the White House.

Strictly Dropped Band After Asked to be Paid, Say Musicians

Band say they were offered a free lunch and ‘screen time’ for appearing on BBC’s spinoff It Takes Two

A group of professional musicians have said they were dropped by Strictly Come Dancing after they asked to be paid for performing on the programme’s spinoff show.

Amaraterra, a band who perform traditional southern Italian music, said they were excited when they were approached by producers who were enthusiastic about them appearing on the BBC companion programme It Takes Two.

However, when they asked for a fee to compensate them for a day’s work the BBC producers told them, in emails seen by the Guardian: “We just don’t have money in the budget to pay for contributors.” Instead, they were offered a free lunch and it was suggested that they would receive a “decent amount of screen time, as well as a mention of your group name”, which would help boost the band’s following on Instagram and Facebook.

Same Old, Same Old Then?

Hey, Do You Know About J-Carter?

J-Carter comes straight out of New Jersey. He believes hip-hop should focus on great lyrical
content, tight beats, and ear catching hooks. He has been writing lyrics since the age of 13 enhancing his vocabulary along the way to be a better lyricist. His musical influences are motivated by a conglomerate of hiphop artists that have come on the world scene the past 30 years. His music is a blend of an old school feel mixed in with the new contemporary feel of hip-hop, but he strives to maintain his own style and voice to separate himself from the playing field.

J-Carter is a veteran MC from New Jersey. Towards the end of the previous decade, the now renowned rapper grew a sizable fanbase from the success of projects like “Im Still Here” and “Take Hip-Hop Back”. He has just released his brand new album “Hip-Hop Till I Die“, which contains a whopping 48 songs

R.L. Burnside (1926-2005)-See My Jumper Hanging - Check It Out!

R.L. Burnside (1926-2005)-See My Jumper Hanging

R.L. Burnside was born in Harmontown, Mississippi, in Lafayette County. He spent most of his life in North Mississippi, working as a sharecropper and a commercial fisherman, as well as playing guitar at weekend house parties. He was first inspired to pick up the guitar in his early twenties, after hearing the 1948 John Lee Hooker single, "Boogie Chillen".

He learned music largely from Mississippi Fred McDowell, who lived nearby in an adjoining cou received little recognition before the early 1990s. In the latter half of that decade, Burnside recorded and toured with Jon Spencer, garnering crossover appeal and introducing his music to a new fan base in the punk and garage rock scenes.. He also cited his cousin-in-law, Muddy Waters, as an influence.

See my jumper on
Hangin' out on the line
Know by that
Something on my mind

I wouldn't be here, baby
If it hadn't been for you
Way down here, way you wanna do
Fix my supper, baby, let me go to bed

Guess white lightnin'
Done gone to my head
Guess white lightnin'
Done gone to my head
