PETER BERNSTEIN TRIO: "Mostly Monk"*

*PETER BERNSTEIN TRIO: "Mostly Monk"*
*Peter Bernstein* - guitar /
*Doug Weiss* - double bass /
* Bill Stewart* - drums

*TOUR DATES*
27 April - 1 June 2014 /(Europe - 31 May Kosovo)/
July / August 2014 /(Everywhere in the world)/
*Peter Bernstein Trio Plays Monk*
Peter Bernstein is an important role model for the current generation
of jazz guitarists. With credits on over 60 recordings and having
performed with Sonny Rollins, Lou Donaldson, Diana Krall, Joshua
Redman, and Lee Konitz, Bernstein offers up virtuosity but what sticks
out is his soulful affinity to the guitar and the material. With his
Trio the New York based guitarist returns to the rich premise behind
“Monk,” his well-
received 2009 recording. Together with Doug
Weiss and Bill Stewart they put their own spin on the rich legacy of
Thelonious Monk, adapting its knotty idiosyncrasies to the fret board.

*Press*
/“The jazz guitarist, among the most sought after in the New York
area, has a feather-light touch, an encyclopedic knowledge of chords
and the ability to play standards like he’s inventing them on the
spot.”/ The Los Angeles Daily News

/“Mr. Bernstein is a fluidly improvising guitarist in the post-bop
tradition, with control over harmony and a beautiful sound.”/ -The
New York Times

/“Peter Bernstein produces a warm, ringing, muscular tone which
echoes that of such giants as Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, and Kenny
Burrell.”/ -Jazziz

Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul "Redeye"

Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul "Redeye"

Gibson Custom is proud to announce Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul “Redeye”—as the latest instrument in a series dedicated to recreating the look, feel, tone and vibe of some of guitar history’s rarest instruments.

Collector’s Choice™ #16 is the long-time sidekick of Ed King, co-writer of the southern-rock classic “Sweet Home Alabama” and veteran of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Strawberry Alarm Clock. King agreed to work with the team at Gibson Custom to recreate his “Collector’s Choice” Les Paul.

The team, which includes Gibson Custom Historic Manager Edwin Wilson, was stunned by the beauty and well-preserved look of King’s cherished instrument. “The top on this thing is crazy, and its condition is actually quite incredible,” observes Wilson. “Once we plugged it in, the rare mix of feel and tone that lay beneath the surface proved this guitar as well-rounded an example of a rare ’59 burst as we have ever had the pleasure to re-create.”
I want one!

Slim Chance Touring 2014

SLIM CHANCE
Featuring Original members from Ronnie Lane's recording and touring line-up.

Touring throughout 2014
Ronnie always jokingly claimed that he found the musicians for Slim Chance in the pages of Exchange and Mart. In 2010 Charlie Hart and Steve Simpson trawled the streets of South London and miraculously found three more ex-Slim Chancers who were all keen to sign up again to the quest for Ronnie's musical holy grail. By gigging round the country the line-up has gelled into a fine band and become a powerful entity in its own right.

The aim is to create a show which celebrates the range of Ronnie's later music: to take this show to people in village halls and clubs, festivals and theatres at home and abroad; and eventually, joined by numerous friends, to resurrect the Passing Show itself.
STEVE SIMPSON
Worked on Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, One for the Road. Steve also worked with Frankie Miller, Eric Bibb, Roger Chapman.
CHARLIE HART
Worked on Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance, One for the Road, Rough Mix, See Me, Rocket 69. Charlie also played with Pete Brown, Ian Dury and Eric Clapton.
ALUN DAVIES
Worked on Ronnie Lane's Anymore for Anymore and toured with the Passing Show. Alun also worked with Cat Stevens, Ralph McTell and Good Men in the Jungle.
STEVE BINGHAM
Worked on Ronnie Lane's Anymore for Anymore and toured with the Passing Show. Steve has also played with Geno Washington, The Foundations and Colin Blunstone.
COLIN DAVEY
Worked on Ronnie Lane's One for the Road.
He also worked with P.P. Arnold, Chris Farlowe, Ben E King and Charles Tolliver.

London Borderline
Joe Geesin, for Record Collector
This sold-out show saw the launch of the band's new single, One For The Road, an old Lane classic, backed with Flags And Banners, co-written with Rod Stewart. The show mixed Faces and Ronnie Lane/Slim Chance material with aplomb; the band were clearly tightly rehearsed and enjoyed it too. The enthusiastic reception ensured that Last Orders and You're So Rude went down as well as Anniversary, Don't Try To Change My Mind and You Never Can Tell. From mod to blues to rock'n'roll, the sound was solid, yet smooth. The underlying feel of R&B-meets-Americana meant everything across the two sets ran seamlessly. Charlie Hart's accordion bolstered the sound nicely, and bassist Steve Bingham nodded along as if they were playing in your front room.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
1 April 1946 – 4 June 1997

In 2012 Slim Chance performed at Glastonbury, the reaction was extraordinary.
