Dying For Bad Music
Toby Hay is a guitarist and composer from near Rhayader in Mid Wales. He makes instrumental music inspired by the landscape, people and history of the area. Following in the footsteps of the American Primitive guitarists like John Fahey and Robbie Basho, and the British Folk revivalists like John Renbourne and Bert Jansch, he composes music for the 6 and 12 string guitar.

His music has been supported by radio stations across the UK, Amercia and Australia, and he has performed across Britain, playing Swn Festival, Machynlenth Comedy Festival and Greenman Festival, as well as supporting artists like Ryley Walker, Songhoy Blues and Marika Hackman.
Influenced by Indian Ragas, African Kora music and ancient Welsh harp music from the Robert ap Huw manuscript he makes music to capture the atmosphere of the special and under represented part of Wales where he lives, adding to the long tradition of Welsh string music.

Tom Wright: A Young Musician With A Great Future!

Tom Wright is a young musician, living in Peterborough UK, who has a great future!

From an early age, Tom was brought up on rockabilly and country music from both of his parents, going to see bands as often as he could, along with watching his dad's band.

At 7 years old, his dad bought him his first guitar, a 3/4 size acoustic, and taught him a few chords. He eventually played it so much, he had worn a hole through the guitar body! He then progressed to get an electric guitar, and started listening to guitarists such as Albert Lee, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, trying to emulate their tone, licks and phrasing.

By 14, he was already travelling up and down the country, playing professionally with shows like the Johnny Cash Story, a tribute to Lonnie Donegan, and an original country band called Midwezt.

At 17, he joined the Elio Pace band, of which had been BBC Radio 2's house band for the previous 2 years. He is still playing for Elio, and they are currently touring all around the UK performing the music of Billy Joel, in The Billy Joel Songbook.

Tom also fronts his own band and his first solo album is due for release on June 29th.

Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul "Redeye"

Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul "Redeye"

Gibson Custom is proud to announce Collector’s Choice™ #16 1959 Les Paul “Redeye”—as the latest instrument in a series dedicated to recreating the look, feel, tone and vibe of some of guitar history’s rarest instruments.

Collector’s Choice™ #16 is the long-time sidekick of Ed King, co-writer of the southern-rock classic “Sweet Home Alabama” and veteran of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Strawberry Alarm Clock. King agreed to work with the team at Gibson Custom to recreate his “Collector’s Choice” Les Paul.

The team, which includes Gibson Custom Historic Manager Edwin Wilson, was stunned by the beauty and well-preserved look of King’s cherished instrument. “The top on this thing is crazy, and its condition is actually quite incredible,” observes Wilson. “Once we plugged it in, the rare mix of feel and tone that lay beneath the surface proved this guitar as well-rounded an example of a rare ’59 burst as we have ever had the pleasure to re-create.”
I want one!

Introducing Steve Yarrington-Jazz Guitarist:

Introducing Steve Yarrington-Jazz Guitarist: Now available for bookings in the UK

Steve’s style centre’s on the “swing” of the earliest electric guitarists in jazz.  His approach is to strip down the “Big Band” genre, to show how these guitarists might have sounded “swinging” with just a trio.

Steve currently has three jazz guitar albums on release - available through iTunes and Amazon - which offer an eclectic mix of tunes, many of which are his own compositions, but all played with Steve’s “swinging” style.

Steve and his team have been concentrating on promotion in the USA, where Steve’s music is extensively played on-air and receives very favourable responses from listeners, both in the USA and around the world.

Album review:  “In ‘Sketches’, Steve interprets familiar tunes…in a new light, giving them new accents.  Steve Yarrington: the name is definitely in my future ‘Jazz Bag’ – I like!”

“Swing Jazz at its best: Steve Yarrington – Sketches” (Marcus Muller – eezyvibes 23.01.13)

Steve is now available for bookings, either as a solo performer (using resident drummer and double bass player); or with his own trio. He is also available for guitar workshops at festivals, as required.

Also Steve’s music is now available for review.
