Court and Spark: An international symposium on Joni Mitchell. Lincoln University UK July 3rd 2015
Court
and Spark: An international symposium on Joni Mitchell.
University
of Lincoln. Minerva Building 3rd July, 2015.
10am-5pm: Day symposium.
6.30pm-8pm: Q&A and book signing with Malka Marom, author of Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now [Omnibus Press, 2014]. Kindly co-hosted by Waterstones, Lincoln.
The School of English and Journalism at the
University of Lincoln, U.K invites you to Court and Spark: An International
Symposium on Joni Mitchell, which features a Q&A with celebrated author
of Joni Mitchell – Both
Sides Now, Malka Marom.
Joni Mitchell is widely recognised as
an innovative, influential, much-loved and much-imitated artist. From her debut
album Song to a Seagull to her most recent Shine, Mitchell’s music: her tunings, her lyrics, her
scope have drawn critical and popular acclaim. And yet, scholarly attention to
her work has been relatively limited. This symposium will attend to Mitchell as
a figure worthy of sustained critical thought and appreciation.
The
School of English and Journalism at the University of Lincoln invites you to
join us on 3rd July, 2015 in considering all things Mitchell.
Academics, music critics, fans are all encouraged to attend.

Walesby Forest Festival 28 -31 AUG 2015
This summer, Walesby Forest Festival will
set up camp in Sherwood Forest for the first time
ever giving families and
friends alike an outdoor festival with a difference, from 28th –
31st August.
Located on the site of one of the UK’s
biggest and most loved adventure activity centres, visitors will be able to
combine outdoor activity with a fun and vibrant music scene with some of
the best folk, blues, country and jazz bands in the world. All
proceeds from the weekend festival will support Walesby Forest Scout Centre, a
not-for-profit organisation. The Walesby Forest Festival is being held to
raise funds for Walesby Forest Charity.
With over 40 on-site adventure
activities, there will be something to suit all tastes. From yoga, archery and
Ceilidh’s, to climbing, martial arts workshops and Canadian canoe experience,
combined with entertainment from circus entertainers, jugglers, stilt walkers
and acrobats. Visitors are guaranteed a unique weekend away in rural
Nottinghamshire.
A full programme of acts is being
finalised, but already confirmed are some of the best bands in the world of
folk. Flying in from Dublin, KILA are hailed as one of Ireland’s most innovative
and exciting bands. KILA provided the soundtrack for Oscar nominated Irish film,
Song of the Sea, and in 2014 headlined the St Patrick’s Day celebrations at
Trafalgar Square in London.
The two on-site bars will be serving a
great choice of real ales, wines and spirits, giving parents and guardians the
perfect break, together with a range of food from around the
world.
Damien Barber, Creative Director at
Walesby Forest Festival, said: “We’re really excited to launch Walesby Forest
Festival at Sherwood Forest. A full programme of events is currently being
finalised, and is guaranteed to excite visitors of all ages. Whether visiting
for a day or camping on-site and enjoying a weekend break in rural
Nottinghamshire, the festival will give something back to the local community
while giving both groups and individuals a weekend to remember in the heart of
the Sherwood Forest.”
We are keen for all sections of the
community to take advantage of the festival and would ask if you are able to
display the attached poster on the staff notice board, if you require extra
posters please contact Walesby Forest on 01623 860202 to discuss your
requirements with our staff.

All gigs start at 9pm unless stated otherwise.
Sat June 6 The Sensational Soul Band (Soul & Motown)Lincolnshire based, guaranteed to fill
the dance floor and create a great party atmosphere with the sounds
of Stax, Atlantic , Motown and
many more great soul labels of the Sixties & Seventies. Real Masters of
Soul with a proper authentic Soul & Motown live sound. Great nostalgia for
fans of Sixties & Seventies soul, with a modern influence from Otis
Redding, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Blues Brothers, The
Commitments, Sam & Dave and many more.
Sat June 13 Skeleton
Crew (Classic Rock/Rock) A hard rock quintet from Nottingham who effortlessly fuse hard-hitting riffs with
memorable melodies and rich harmonies, and deliver it all with a complete
absence of grace and decorum. If you like your rock music to pirouette down a
catwalk wearing lycra and eyeliner then Skeleton Crew UK may not be
for you. If, on the other hand, you prefer your rock music to make you feel
like you’ve just been run over by a rather happy truck or some sort of tractor,
then you could be in the right place. Its just good, honest, heavy rock and
good honest loud people seem to really like it.
Sat June 20 Triton 56 (Prehistoric Crunchy Rock) From the ashes of Riff Raff come the offspring of…..Triton 56 playing ZZTop, Purple, Led Zep, Quo, AC/DC and all that kind of stuff…… WELCOME BACK! One definitely not to miss.
