Playing For Change Foundation - Empowering Girls Through Music.

Throughout history, women have been told that they have no power, no right to anopinion - no voice. Thankfully, we've seen firsthand that music education is a powerful tool for inspiring girls to fight for a better future.
That’s why, this year, we want to place the spotlight on our programs that are transforming their communities to support female empowerment. In Nepal, for instance, lives are being saved thanks to the Mother’s Society, which educates local women and girls about their rights, and the dangers of human trafficking. At Ecole de Musique de Kirina in Mali, female students are finally being allowed to learn to play their country’s traditional instruments, a privilege that was only given to male students until recently. At Joudour Sahara in Morocco (a country in which women were not even allowed to divorce their husbands until 2004) , we’ve achieved a 90% increase in female student attendance since the program began last year.
These are just a few examples of the important societal change that Playing For Change Foundation programs are initiating. We have so much more to do, but we cannot do it without your help.
Give the gift of music today and help us raise $75,000 to continue providing opportunities that girls around the world could previously only dream of.

Jimi Hendrix Monterey 1967 Guitar from Fender

“This is for everybody”

Jimi Hendrix took the world by storm with his incredible Monterey Pop Festival performance, which he concluded with the sacrificial burning of his now-iconic hand-painted Stratocaster. Destroyed during the fiery culmination of his set, this one-of-a-kind guitar survived only in photos and film. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this milestone in music history, we created the limited-edition Jimi Hendrix Monterey Stratocaster

FEATURES

HENDRIX-INSPIRED ARTWORK

The guitar's body art is an homage to Hendrix's hand-painted original, giving fans, players and collectors the chance to own a modern classic

MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL 1967

It’s amazing that a guitar that
was played only once would go on to be one of the most recognized in history, but that’s exactly the case with a one-of-a-kind Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix sacrificed at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.
Hendrix hand-painted a flowery design on this legendary Strat—in nail polish, no less—the night before he was to close out the inaugural event and brought it out for his final song, “Wild Thing”.

After Hendrix sang the last words and displayed his full arsenal of guitar wizardry—playing behind his back, with his teeth—he had one trick left. Hendrix
turned to his amps and scraped the guitar
against the speaker cabinets for maximum feedback.

The Fiery Finale
“This is for everyone,” he said just before spraying something on the guitar. Jimi bent down to kiss the instrument and then tossed a lit match to elicit flames from the prone Strat. Like a disciple worshiping at an altar, Hendrix knelt before the blazing guitar as the audience stared agape watching him smash it to pieces.
While only a shard of that now-famous piece of history exists today, Fender has painstakingly recreated Jimi’s Monterey Strat to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the fiery milestone, right down to the nail-polish artwork that burned its way into the memories of fans around the world.

STILLHOUSE - Progressive and inventive acoustic folk trio, booking now for 2018!

STILLHOUSE WEB-188

I'm over the moon to be working with this progressive acoustic trio (based in York)...Stillhouse are a mandolin, guitar, double bass and vocal trio ensemble, presenting original songs and instrumental material with roots in bluegrass and contemporary folk. Captivating & thoughtful original compositions and impressively stylish. The band members are Jonny Neaves (guitar, vocals) and Polly Bolton (mandolin, vocals) who have been collaborating since their teens and Matthew Mefford (double bass) who has roots in his hometown of Austin, Texas and spent the years before his move to the UK touring the States with bluegrass/jazz/folk quartet MilkDrive. Together, they have created a captivating and complex sound characterised by melodic original songs alongside soaring mandolin, guitar and bass-led instrumental pieces with roots in bluegrass, old time, folk melodies and beautiful songwriting.

"They're all such amazing players. It's a rare thing these days, but they do it with finesse and style and it's never showboaty, just pure class" - Chris Helme (Seahorses)

Westival Mark Harris 2

2017 marked the first anniversary of the band, as well as the release of their first 7-track EP, Love is the Weight. The trio has been busy sharing this first offering with their burgeoning audiences across the UK and are looking forwards to releasing their first full length album in 2018. Not only are they capable of writing and arranging top drawer songs, they have the additional instrumental chops to go with it. This trio will soon be causing a stir. Wonderful musicianship and superbly well-arranged material; Stillhouse completely captivate their audience from the first note they play.
"Rich with the tone and feel of dark Americana, but the vocal style, lyrical content and wry humour set it apart. The production and performance is polished; a confident release from a talented band of musicians." - FATEA
