TAMARA OBROVAC

TAMARA OBROVAC
Tamara Obrovac the composer,  singer and flutist is one of the most impressive artists on the Croatian music scene. Her unique musical expression which blends contemporary jazz with particular musical and dialectal tradition from her homeland Istria, North Adriatic peninsula, brought here international recognition.

Her musical career as a singer started mid 80-s in Zagreb, after finishing High school of music for flute in here native Pula. At that time she immersed in research of jazz harmony and soon she begins to compose her own contemporary jazz compositions, forms her own band and in the next few years discovers tradition of her homeland as a point of inspiration and originality.

She released her first CD “Triade” in 1996, which immediately got critics approval (“absolute masterpiece”), and 1998 CD “Ulika”, named on her grandmother, both with piano trio, establishing fusion between contemporary jazz, Istrian and Mediterranean tradition as her original musical expression.

At that time she began to perform in the neighboring countries, Italy, Slovenia, Austria and starts to compose theatre and film music as well. On her next CD ”Transhistria” 2001, she inaugurated a new international Transhistria ensemble (Histria is ancient name for Istria) and a new sound, with accordion and acoustic guitar.

In following years she released 4 author albums, experimenting with the border areas of jazz, funk, classical music, and different ethnic traditions of the Mediterranean, singing on endangered Slavic and Romanic Istrian dialects.

With her distinctive musical expression, excellent band and passionate live performances suffused with spontaneity, inventive improvisation, freedom, humor and the ability to communicate with the audience, she has become increasingly more
present and recognized on the European musical stage.

She collaborated with many renowned musicians; Glauco Venier, Gabrielle Mirabassi, Theodosii Spassov, Wolfgang Puschnig, performed on many international festivals: Talos Jazz fesival, Le Gipfel du Jazz Freiburg, Strictly mundial Marseille, Akordeon festival Vienna, EBU festival Kaustinen, Saulkrasti Jazz, Freiburger Jazz-nights, Firra Medititerranea de Manresa, Jazz-ahead Bremen, Jazz au Chellah; and clubs: Joe’s pub NYC, Porgy&Bess Viena, Moods, Zurich, Bird’s eye, Bern, and many more, highly praised from audience and critics as well.

She received numerous awards for her work, among the others 9 Porin awards
(Croatian's Grammy), and she was nominated for BBC Radio 3 World Music awards
(European music and Audience Award).

Since 2010, she is the director of Valamar Jazz Festival in Poreč.

In 2013 she recorded 2 new CD-s in ArteSuono studio Udine (IT): “Ulika revival” with
here quartet that had succesful showcase on Jazz-ahead Bremen 2013, and “Canto
amoroso” with Transhistria ensemble.

TROLLFOLK - indie, folk-rock with attitude all the way from FINLAND!

TROLLFOLK - indie, folk-rock with attitude all the way from FINLAND!

Trollfolk® is an indie world folk rock band from Joensuu, Eastern Finland. In 2010, singer Usi Riikonen fulfilled a long awaited dream to sing in her native language, Swedish. She gathered the best musicians and created Trollfolk®. A Finnish band performing Finnish indie-folk-rock with Swedish lyrics is not only a traditional contradiction, but also a musical rebellion. Conflict and musical dynamics made for enough explosive force, and off they went in Spring 2010 to unleash their sound on Finnish audiences.

All members but the singer Usi Riikonen have Finnish as their native language. Most of the song’s lyrics are taken from traditional Swedish folk songs, and rearranged in Trollfolk’s own musical style. But Trollfolk® also writes and composes it's own material.

Trollfolk’s roots are in North Karelian folkmusic, but rock, pop, jazz and even punk are clearly present. Their sound is fresh due to their first-class musicianship and songwriting, and their kick-ass attitude. Trollfolk® redefines Folk rock one more time. This time, it comes from Eastern Karelia, but different than expected. Trollfolk® takes the heart of Finnish Folk music and puts it into Swedish folk rock. Something truly spectacular

Trollfolk® made their first public appearance in November 2010 with great success. Right away, they went to the studio to record 3 of their songs, released in December 2010. Additional gigs followed, but the public wanted more! Trollfolk® has played many festivals and venues in Finland but will make a short trip to the UK in June 2014 for the first time. Plans for completing their record are currently in progress and their first ever UK Tour from 1st June - 9th June 2014.

Mammu Koskelo, Kantele, vocals and Guitar

including the line’s first bass guitar

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 1, 2012) — Fender is excited to welcome four new, out-of-the-ordinary models to its innovative Pawn Shop series–the Pawn Shop Offset Special, Pawn Shop Jaguarillo, Pawn Shop Fender Mustang® Special, and the line’s first ever bass guitar, the Pawn Shop Reverse Jaguar® Bass. These stylish models offer bold personality, striking looks and daring tones.

The Pawn Shop Jaguarillo guitar hot-rods traditional Jaguar design through the roof with a scorching HSS configuration in which all three pickups –two standard Stratocaster® single-coils and an Atomic humbucking bridge pickup – are angled for enhanced bass and treble response.

With a standout design that calls for double-take reactions, the Pawn Shop Reverse Jaguar Bass features a “reverse” body and “reverse” headstocks, new pickguard shape, two Reverse Jaguar humbucking pickups and a streamlined control layout of a single three-way pickup toggle switch and two knobs (volume and tone).

A guitar from the past and the future, the Pawn Shop Offset Special guitar is one of Fender’s most offbeat designs ever. Features include a semi-hollow double-cutaway body with an f hole and sleek offset waist, a pair of large JZHB humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching and an Adjusto-Matic bridge with vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece.

The enormously popular Pawn Shop Mustang Special returns with a brand new 3-Color Sunburst finish, expanding color choices for players of all tastes. Features include a rosewood fretboard with modern 9.5 radius and medium jumbo frets, pickup toggle switch, three-way coil selector slide switch for each humbucking pickup (enabling 15 different tonal options), mint green pickguard, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and deluxe gig bag.

London Record Store For Sale On Ebay.

Uncut Magazine reports that the owner of a London record store has put his entire shop up for sale oneBay.

Listed with a 'Buy It Now' price of £300,000, the listing begins: "Live your dream and enter a rock’n’roll lifestyle – your chance to run a record shop!"

On The Beat Records was opened by Tim Derbyshire in 1979 on Hanway Street, near Tottenham Court Road. Almost 35 years later it sells a range of collectible vinyl from 1960s psychedelia to grunge with funk, soul, jazz, folk, country and library music.

"I've given it my heart and soul for all these years but it’s time for me to step down and let another passionate music lover take over," Derbyshire writes in the listing.

"If you’re at the stage in your life when you don’t have to worry about making money but can live the bohemian life, meet interesting people every day and the occasional pop or rock star, here’s your chance to take over the oldest record shop in the centre of swinging London," the listing says. "A vinyl treasure trove with a pulsing, groovin' history steeped in its very walls. You can make history and take it over!"

The listing also says that without a buyer, the shop will shut down. "Without someone buying it, it will disappear. If you’re mad about music, love vinyl and want to keep the dream alive, here’s your chance to take on an Aladdin's Cave of musical gems," it says.
Bidding ends on November 25.
