Sat 30th
Basket Case (New Wave/Pop/Punk) Technically known as a four-piece new-wave pop punk cheesy covers band. Basket Case ‘rattle’ out songs like a machine gun on heat, if there’s a world record for songs per hour these boys must hold it, if Basket Case were a sports car, Jeremy Clarkson would be at the wheel. Playing an archive of punk classics from The Ramones, Clash, Ruts, Buzzcocks, Tempole Tudor and many more.  An all round entertaining band. 9pm start

Hop Farm Festival Set To Return in 2014

Uncut Magazine and others have reported that the Hop Farm Festival is set to return next summer, despite being called off this year because of poor ticket sales and going into administration following the 2012 event.

Kent Online reports that the festival will be run by a new promoter, thought to be Flashback Festival's Neil Butkeratis. The festival's head of marketing, Miguel Fenton, stated: "The event is going ahead, which is great news. There will be a fresh approach under a new promoter." A spokesperson for UK Events added: "It will be more of a boutique festival with a new promoter and line-up." It will staged over the weekend of 4-6 July 2014 and cater for 20,000 punters
Let's wait and see....

Lincolnshire Sings!

Lincolnshire Sings!
Putting community singing on the map in Lincolnshire

Community choirs and choral groups across Lincolnshire are invited to contribute to a mapping project which will enable opportunities for people to sing for fun to be identified and signposted.

Choral ensembles, glee and folk clubs, social singers, barbershop choruses and amateur operatic groups in addition to church, gospel and community choirs are all invited to join the ‘Lincolnshire Sings!’ register, which is being managed by soundLINCS on behalf of Lincolnshire Music Service. Participating organisations are simply asked to complete a short questionnaire: the mapping and dissemination of the information provided is then monitored by the soundLINCS team in accordance with the guidelines of the Data Protection Act.

‘We’re looking forward to hearing from hundreds of choirs from all over Lincolnshire!’ says soundLINCS CEO Nikki-Kate Heyes. ‘Their feedback will enable us to build a resource which will not only show how much singing goes on in our communities, but which may ultimately influence funding decisions, encourage new singers and help identify performance opportunities. It could even lead to choirs sharing their enthusiasm with others, whether by working with local schools or with other music-making groups.’

The initiative is an extension of the ‘Lincoln Sings’ project (see group Facebook page) which has already established that there are more open choirs than supermarkets in Lincoln city alone.

For more details on ‘Lincolnshire Sings!’ and a copy of the questionnaire, please e-mail jill@soundlincs.org
soundLINCS is a community music organisation operating across the East Midlands.

Neil Young Live At The Cellar Door Released Dec 10

Neil Young will release Live At The Cellar Door, the latest in his Archives Performance
Series, on December 10th on Reprise Records.

The album collects recordings made during Young's intimate six-show solo stand at The Cellar Door in Washington D.C. between November 30th and December 2nd, 1970, a few months after Reprise released his classic third solo album After The Gold Rush in August. Of the many unique gems found on Live At The Cellar Door, a rare solo version of "Cinnamon Girl" performed on piano rather than guitar is a particular treasure for Neil fans (the full band version appears on Young's 1969 second solo album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere).

The album, which features Young performing on acoustic guitar and piano, includes tracks that are interesting for several reasons, such as stunning live versions of songs that appeared on After The Gold Rush ("Tell Me Why," "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," "Birds," "Don't Let It Bring You Down" and the title track) and solo performances of the Buffalo Springfield songs "Expecting To Fly" (from their 1967 second album Buffalo Springfield Again), "I Am A Child" (from their third and final album Last Time Around and Young's 1977 Decade compilation), and "Flying On The Ground Is Wrong," from their 1966 self-titled debut.

In addition, Live At The Cellar Door features early, raw performances of songs that wouldn't appear until subsequent Young albums, including the rarity "Bad Fog Of Loneliness" (which appears on Live At Massey Hall '71 - released in 2007-- but was previously unreleased until the studio band version was included on Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972) and "Old Man" (released two years later on 1972's Harvest album). "Down By The River," also from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, rounds out the spectacular set.

Live At The Cellar Door was recorded by Henry Lewy and produced by Young.

As with Young's previous releases in the Archives series, Live At The Cellar Door will be released digitally, on CD, and on 180-gram vinyl (mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed at Pallas in Germany).

The track-listing for Live At The Cellar Door is as follows:

Side One:
Tell Me Why
Only Love Can Break Your Heart
After The Gold Rush
Expecting To Fly
Bad Fog Of Loneliness
Old Man
Birds
Side Two:
Don't Let It Bring You Down
See The Sky About To Rain
Cinnamon Girl
I Am A Child
Down By The River
Flying On The Ground Is Wrong

Rita Payne; Check Them Out!

After only being together a year, Rhiannon Scutt and Pete Sowerby of the folk, blues and roots duo Rita Payne have achieved a great deal including a debut album, television appearances, numerous National and International Radio air time and are the ‘go to’ opening act for many International Folk and Blues Artists across the UK.

Rhiannon and Pete have known each other since their first day of secondary school back in 2000, but decided to write music together only a year ago when Rhiannon accidentally called Pete while he was holidaying in Spain. From there, the Doncaster duo decided to meet up and try being a covers outfit to earn a bit of cash in pubs. However, after one rehearsal, they began writing songs. After compiling a playlist of around 20 self penned tunes, and mixing their names up to create a new one - Rita Payne set out to conquer the Doncaster pub scene.
After totting up well over 100 gigs in the first six months, Rita Payne began to attract the attention of reputable music venues due to their intriguing blend of folky harmonies, bluesy riffs and the fact they use a suitcase as a bass drum! They suddenly found themselves transported from playing to a handful of people in a pub, to hundreds in venues such as The Leadmill in Sheffield, The Dome in Doncaster and Tramlines Festival in Sheffield.
Subsequently after a chance meeting with renowned producer Keith Angel at a local gig, Rita Payne began to record their debut album - “Stories From a Suitcase.”
"Stories from a Suitcase is an assured set of songs, delivered with panache. It's hard to credit this is a début recording, the song writing is that good" - R2 Magazine 2013

“_A truly unusual sound, great harmonies and phenomenal guitar work”- Andy Kershaw, BBC
"...their delicate harmonies work beautifully; The subtle musical backdrop working in perfect tandem with the breathtaking vocal interplay and well-written lyrics. I predict a great future for this Rita Payne" - Alan Cackett, Maverick Magazine

"Rita Payne have brought some sunshine to my life" - David Burns, BBC Introducing Humberside

Topic Records - New Linda Thompson Album

Won't Be Long Now

Topic Records is very proud to announce that the long-awaited new album from Linda Thompson will be released next week.

Won’t Be Long Now – Linda's first album in six years -  was recorded in the UK and America with a rich array of contributing musicians. While it’s undoubtedly a family affair, featuring a duet with former husband Richard Thompson, regular contributions from their children Teddy and Kami, and grandson Zak Hobbs,
Won’t Be Long Now also reflects Linda’s folk beginnings. This new album includes appearances by many alumni of the British folk scene, including John Kirkpatrick, Dave Swarbrick, Martin and Eliza Carthy, as well as American musicians such as David Mansfield, Amy Helm, Sam Amidon, Jenni Muldaur and Tony Trischka, among others.

“It’s apparent how undimmed Thompson’s talent is, especially in the sheer confident power of her vocal performance. Long may she continue.” Record Collector
