Scottish rock legends Big Country celebrate the 30th Anniversary of their classic second album ‘Steeltown’. They will be embarking on a three month long Steeltown tour, playing tracks from their iconic number one album plus their greatest hits. Big Country, featuring original members Bruce Watson and Mark Brzezicki, still retain the same energy, passion and unique sound that propelled them to the top 30 years ago. Secret Affair: 35th Anniversary Tour Friday 21 November 7.00 pm

Released in 1979, “Glory Boys” was the debut album from top mod revival band Secret Affair. The album featured the smash hit singles “Time for Action” and “Let your heart dance”, and was a massive commercial and creative success featuring nine original songs from Ian Page & David Cairns along with a cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Going to a go-go”. To celebrate this seminal album’s 35th anniversary Secret Affair have embarked on a UK tour…including this gig at the Drill Hall which takes place almost 35 years to the day since they last played at the venue. Carrie Elkin from Austin, Texas is a born performer, possessing an infectious energy and having the most powerful voice which is revelatory and riveting.
Very few people in this world can captivate an audience live music, with just a voice and guitar the way Carrie can. Her songs are, at once, intimate yet universal, naked but richly adorned. When she was younger Carrie was a national champion gymnast, who then went on to study physiology at Ohio University to become an organic chemist.
Music, however, was in her blood and the attention she was gaining from her song writing gave rise to a career change as she began to record and tour across America. In 2011 she released her debut CD for Red House Records ‘Call It My Garden’ and the CD immediately topped the folk and Americana Radio Charts in the states.
In May this year she released a duo album ‘For Keeps’ with her partner, and soon to be husband, Danny Schmidt. It sees the two performers passing guitar back and forth and sharing songs, with each joining the other in harmony.
For the concert she will be joined by accomplished musicians Anthony Da Costa on guitar/vocals and Lindsey Verill on bass/cello/vocals.
Support will come from Manchester singer/songwriter Little Rach, who herself released her debut album ‘If You Go’ earlier in the year.

Fri 12th	Acoustic Night.  Our monthly session (second Friday of each month) featuring Meg McPartlin, a very talented young female artist performing her own twists on your favourite classics both new and old and a mix of her own written material, starting at 10pm.  We would also like to invite those who like to have a play and join in or, if they wish, play a few songs solo before our featured guest starts (please bring your own instruments). The idea is to enjoy a nice sedate evening soaking up the easy listening music that acoustic instruments offer.  (No Electric). 8pm start

The Beatles’ triumphant arrival in New York City on February 7, 1964, opened America’s doors to a wealth of British musical talent. What followed became known as the second British Invasion. While the Beatles were its undisputed leaders, the Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Dusty Springfield and a host of other British acts would, within a matter of weeks, dominate the US charts. 

On the 20th of May, 50 years on, local musicians pay tribute to the British bands and artists of the mid-sixties who led this friendly invasion. Tickets: £5 from 01522 873894.
