TOWN HALL LIVE - KIRTON   NEXT CONCERT ON FRIDAY 10TH NOVEMBER with THE PAPERBOYS with support from SARAH JANE SCOUTEN The Paperboys from Vancouver last played Town Hall Live in July, 2015.  It was one of our best ever concerts.  Now they are back with their adventurous vision of Canadian roots music, spreading good cheer and great music. The Paperboys formed in 1995 when Tom Landa moved to Vancouver.  They soon became a key part of the ever increasing wave of Canadian folk rock bands that included The Duhks, The Bills and Great Big Sea.  The Paperboys, however, were different with Celtic fiddle, flue, and trombone blazing through their songs.  The songs included Spanish language songs that reflected Tom's heritage and rock songs with strong pop influences.  Their sound is a melting pot, that includes healthy servings of Ska, Soca, folk, soul and funk. Live they are dynamic and the current line up features Tom Landa on multi stringed instruments and vocals, Geoffrey Kelly on flutes and whistles, Tom's wife Kalissa on fiddle and vocals, Brad Gillard on bass, banjo and trombone, ans Sam Esecson on drums.  They are the best multi lingual, multi generational, multi instrumental and genre bendin band you will ever hear. Mark Lewis on bass, Chris Hillman on pedal steel, dobro and mandolin and Craig Hanson on drums and percussion. The band also appear under the name of Chorlton Country Club, playing Americana music rather than their trademark blues and soul.  They will play the first set. Live Lauren Housley is simply breath taking.  Their are hints of blues, soul, rock and country in her locker and she has a warm, intense and enjoyable style of her own. Amanda, from Ottawa, is an award winning artist with a powerful, slightly gritty, deeply personal and instantly accessible folk-roots sound. Her increasing success in Canada, Europe and the UK stems from her ability to translate personal stories into messages, evoking a feeling of positivity to connect with her listeners. In July, 2016 Amanda released her fourth album 'Holding Patterns', which contains twelve descriptive songs some of which champions her native Indian heritage (Red Dress, in particular), whilst 'The Day The Mountain Fell' tells the incredible survival of her two year old cousin from a landslide. Amanda is a star in Canada, having performed at opening and closing ceremonies of several top sporting events.  She has spearheaded Bluebird North's songwriting showcase and performed for troops in Afghanistan.  In 2014 she was awarded the Canadian Folk Music Award and was nominated for a Juno award for her album 'Catch A Fire' In November 2016 she toured Germany and Holland and now she is back in the UK for a 16 date tour.  She will be joined by ace guitarist Anders Drerup and Anna Ruddick on electric and upright bass. For his Town Hall Live concert Gren will be joined by Sarah Smout on cello and harmony vocals and Julia Disney on keyboards, violin and harmonies.  The band deliver stunning harmonies, intricate string arrangements for cello and violin.  They have been captivating audiences across the UK and creating music that is enthralling, persuasive and masterful, whilst showcasing Gren's phenomenal guitar playing and poetic lyrics. The Loud Shirts from Hull sing three part harmonies, with our sometime sound man Lynn Blakeston on electric and lap steel guitars, Rob on bass, Tony on guitar and mandolin and Phil on drums.  They will be sharing their love of 70's West Coast music by, amongst others, the Eagles, Crosby, Still nd Nash, Flying Burrito Bothers, Steve Earle, Neil Young and Poco.  You are sure to know many of the songs and the boys will have you singing along. Likewise can be said of the special guests for the evening, Kuschty Rye from Bradford, who are Des Horsfall (pictured) and Andy McKerlie.  Des has recorded a trio of albums inspired by the late great Ronnie Lane.  The music takes you back to the music of The Small Faces, the Faces and Slim Chance.  Indeed, Des is the current singer of Ronnie's old band Slim Chance. Both acts have played a support slot previously at Town Hall Live and both went down really well, so well that we had to ask them back.  Kuschty Rye will play a 40 minute set, whilst the Loud Shirts will play a full set.  It will be a night of great music, with a whole of songs that you are bound to recognise. As a teenager Hannah trained to be a classical pianist and didn't begin writing songs until she was 21 and a student at Tennessee State University.  Her performing career began at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville when she was chosen to represent the University in a 3 song showcase.  Within two years she signed a publishing deal after her song 'Lonesome' was featured on the Hart of Dixie TV series. In 2013 she recorded her debut album 'Razor Wire, which was packed with quality songs and was backed by Jason Isbell's band 400 Unit.  It is stunning.  She is about to release the follow up. The special guest on Hannah's 2016 tour will be Lilly Hiatt.  Lilly also has a famous father, John whose songs have been covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Lilly writes and plays songs that are witty, frank and musically adventurous.  In 2015 she released her latest album 'Royal Blue' that contains eleven smart songs that branch out into different sounds and styles, from pop to rock to indie. Lauren's debut album 'Sweet Surrender' is a killer, no filler affair with a number of tracks already play listed or on prime spot play on Radio 2 by the likes of Chris Evans, Terry Wogan , Jeremy Vine, Bob Harris and Robert Elms. all of whom know a good tune when they hear one. Callaghan's voice is unmistakable.  Her eclectic American pop sound stands out like a gem.  She is a truly talented performer and is a favourite of Bob Harris, Jeremy Vine and Alex Lester. The week before her concert she will again play the C2C concert at Excel in London and is due to perform at Bob Harris's Under The Appletree Festival in Silverstone at the end of May. As Bob says 'Callaghan is a wonderful artist, beautiful, warm and hugely talented'.   We know that to be true.
