Introducing Calaita Flamenco Son (UK and Spain)
CALAITA FLAMENCO SON (UK
/ Spain) - Authentic flamenco with energy and spirit. Touring dates 14 - 21
November 2014. Debut album out now on the World Music Network / Riverboat
Records label
With their debut album release by the World Music Network /
Riverboat Records label a this year and a 5 star review in Songlines Magazine, ‘Calaita Flamenco Son’ are embarking on a UK tour in
November. Half of the members are based in the UK and the other in Spain, they
are a tight group with energy and spirit. Brought together by Seville born
singer Chico Pere, UK based guitarist Glenn Sharp and percussionist Leo
Paredes, ‘Calaita Flamenco
Son’ offer authentic flamenco perfect for music venues, arts centres,
concert theatres and intimate spaces. Their live concerts include both
traditional flamenco palos as well as more contemporary flamenco rumbas written
by the group. From passionate and sorrowful seguiriyas to vibrant bulerias and
rumbas. ‘Calaita Flamenco
Son’ are Chico Pere –
voice and guitar, Glenn Sharp –
guitar, Leo Paredes – Percussion, Diana Castro – voice and Matt Nickson
– flute and saxophone.
About the debut album, released by World Music Network / Riverboat
Records Early 2014:
The whole album was recorded in 3 days at Wavelength Studios in
the UK. The album was then produced and mixed by Glenn Sharp and mastered at
POB Audio. The album includes all the very best from ‘Calaita Flamenco Son’
with traditional flamenco palos such as ‘alegrias’, ‘bulerias’ and
‘seguiriyas’, and the more popular sounds of flamenco rumba, including the
amazing song ‘un mensajito’ by Chico Pere, always a popular encore at their
live shows. The album has a little something for everyone. The aim of this
album was to capture the energy and spontaneity of their live shows and this is
achieved perfectly.

Presenting The Wonderful Sound of the Cinema Organ.
The Wonderful Sound of the Cinema Organ are a Leeds based
9 piece ensemble comprising Drums, Bass, Guitar, Piano, Cello, Violin,
Saxophone, Trumpet and Vocals. Working with both music and film visuals the
band layer up richly textured harmonies and hypnotic rhythms, all set to
archive footage, collected and edited to reflect each piece.
Over the past 18 months the band have had airplay on BBC
Radio 6 Music and have enjoyed playing at festivals such as Musicport,
Shambala, Beatherder and Beacons, several venues in Leeds, London, Nottingham
and Bristol and a really special show at Islington's esteemed Union Chapel
not to mention the Natural History Museum!
"The texture of The Wonderful Sound Of The Cinema
Organ is both fresh and alive and for sixty minutes a magical spell is woven
across this intimate room. With the fluidity of their arrangements drawing
upon the more traditional aspects of manouche jazz, Afro-American gospel and
southern soul, they also manage to harness these influences to the beat of an
altogether more different, more modern drum" - (god is in the tv).

The Demon barbers Pilot for New Album.
Last year they started working towards their next album ‘Disco At The Tavern’ and had a short session in Keith Angel’s studio to produce a pilot. This was an a exciting new collaboration with producers Simon Emmerson and Mass from Afro Celt Sound System They’ve since taken a bit of time out from the project to train up their new bass player, Max Ross, for their live shows this year and they are now getting back to it!
They hope to have a new album before too long

Rita Payne; Check Them Out!
After
only being together a year, Rhiannon Scutt and Pete Sowerby of the folk, blues
and roots duo Rita Payne have achieved a great deal including a debut album,
television appearances, numerous National and International Radio air time and
are the ‘go to’ opening act for many International Folk and Blues Artists across
the UK.
Rhiannon
and Pete have known each other since their first day of secondary school back in
2000, but decided to write music together only a year ago when Rhiannon
accidentally called Pete while he was holidaying in Spain. From there, the
Doncaster duo decided to meet up and try being a covers outfit to earn a bit of
cash in pubs. However, after one rehearsal, they began writing songs. After
compiling a playlist of around 20 self penned tunes, and mixing their names up
to create a new one - Rita
Payne set out to conquer the Doncaster pub scene.
After totting up well over 100 gigs in the first six months, Rita Payne began to attract the attention of reputable music venues due to their intriguing blend of folky harmonies, bluesy riffs and the fact they use a suitcase as a bass drum! They suddenly found themselves transported from playing to a handful of people in a pub, to hundreds in venues such as The Leadmill in Sheffield, The Dome in Doncaster and Tramlines Festival in Sheffield.

Subsequently
after a chance meeting with renowned producer Keith Angel at a local gig, Rita
Payne began to record their debut album - “Stories From a
Suitcase.”
"Stories from a Suitcase is an
assured set of songs, delivered with panache. It's hard to credit this is a
début recording, the song writing is that good" - R2 Magazine 2013

truly unusual sound, great harmonies and phenomenal guitar work”- Andy Kershaw, BBC
