Nominated in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the Faustus triumvirate are 3 of the leading lights of their generation: Saul Rose (Waterson:Carthy, Whapweazel), Benji Kirkpatrick (Seth Lakeman Band, Bellowhead) and Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast). They have a plethora of experience between them, brought together here in a virtuosic display of musicianship and testosterone. Topic's 75th Anniversary vinyl

As part of Topic's 75th anniversary celebrations they are very proud to release a series of strictly limited edition 7" vinyl EPs and singles. In 1939 the first release was a shellac 78rpm - ‘The Man That Waters The Workers’ Beer’ / ‘The Internationale’ - 75 years and many technological shifts later, they are releasing a series of vinyl records to celebrate a continuing love affair with a piece of plastic that is still the most exciting format on which to listen to recorded music.

Topic have beautiful facsimile editions of the rare 1963 EPs from Shirley Collins and Anne Briggs:

Nic Jones makes his debut on 7" single with two tracks from his classic Penguin Eggs album, and we still have a few copies of the Martin & Eliza Carthy - Happiness single:

Carrie Elkin @ Kirton Town Hall Sunday 28th Sep

Carrie Elkin Performing @ Kirton Town Hall Live
Sunday 28th September
Carrie Elkin from Austin, Texas is a born performer, possessing an infectious energy and having the most powerful voice which is revelatory and riveting.
Very few people in this world can captivate an audience live music, with just a voice and guitar the way Carrie can. Her songs are, at once, intimate yet universal, naked but richly adorned. When she was younger Carrie was a national champion gymnast, who then went on to study physiology at Ohio University to become an organic chemist.
Music, however, was in her blood and the attention she was gaining from her song writing gave rise to a career change as she began to record and tour across America. In 2011 she released her debut CD for Red House Records ‘Call It My Garden’ and the CD immediately topped the folk and Americana Radio Charts in the states.
In May this year she released a duo album ‘For Keeps’ with her partner, and soon to be husband, Danny Schmidt. It sees the two performers passing guitar back and forth and sharing songs, with each joining the other in harmony.
For the concert she will be joined by accomplished musicians Anthony Da Costa on guitar/vocals and Lindsey Verill on bass/cello/vocals.
Support will come from Manchester singer/songwriter Little Rach, who herself released her debut album ‘If You Go’ earlier in the year.

Advance tickets are priced at £11 and can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from

Introducing Fusion Lute/Guitarist Nabil Khemir

Fusion Lute/Guitarist
Nabil Khemir

Tunisian born fusion lute/guitarist Nabil Khemir, has spent a lifetime crafting his artistic skills and musical vision. Growing up in the metropolis of Tunis, Nabil Khemir was captivated by the enchanting sounds of North African Egyptian music and it's rich cultural heritage. This inspirational and aural excitement propelled Nabil Khemir to yearn for a unique musical instrument and voice. On his ninth birthday Nabil got his wish, receiving a musical lute to explore the shapes and sounds that this young boy was hearing.

Quickly adapting to this majestic instrument, this child prodigy begin playing pubic performances, thus continuing to show great musical promise. Not one to waste time, Nabil continued to practice and learn on his own, as well as from the great recordings of Western jazzmen such as George Benson; John McLaughlin; John Coltrane and Pat Metheny to name a few. In addition to learning from his favorite recording's, Nabil took his educational wishes a step further when he sought out the famous lute player Ali Sriti for several private master classes.

In 2004, Nabil decided to create a hybrid instrument which would allow him to share his true musical voice and vision that he was hearing deep within his soul. So after several years of research and development, Nabil's artistic vision paid off when he completed his one of a kind double neck lute/guitar instrument which he aptly named, "RayJam". This unique instrument, allows Nabil Khemir to explore and share his musical playfulness by having an electric lute and electric guitar within grasp at a
Received awards:

Nabil participates in 2007 to the American music contest for creation and improvisation  and receives (among  2000 candidates from 40 countries worldwide) the  honor award for his composition Parfum d’orient et d’occident.

Dylan Howe’s Subterraneans featuring Andy Sheppard @ Lincoln Drill Hall Wednesday 10 Sep 2014 8pm

‘Dylan Howe – Subterranean’ is a new album that re-works the instrumental cuts from David Bowie’s Berlin albums, Low and Heroes, investing them with new life whilst remaining true to their original spirit. A specially-made film will also be projected during the concert. Established for over 20 years as a successful performer, Andy Sheppard is one of the very few British musicians to have made a significant impact on the international scene from solo to big band settings and to our knowledge he has not previously appeared in Lincoln. A special band with extra special musicians playing the music of a very special star. Check It Out!

News from Topic Records

News from Topic

The summer's almost over and we're still recovering from the special 75th Anniversary concert at Towersey Festival. As you might imagine, it was an emotional afternoon and even merited an editorial comment in the Guardian a few days later. Jim Causley, Josienne Clarke, Blair Dunlop, Fay Hield and the gentlemen of Lau all joined with Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy and the Gift Band to celebrate the world's oldest independent record label. Our heartfelt thanks are due to them all.

Here is a link to a new short film about the first 75 years of Topic :
