ROD PICOTT

support Farewell

 Fairground

on

Saturday 6th

 February, 2016

It has been 16 years since Rod Picott laid down his work belt, picked up an acoustic guitar and put a permanent end to his gig as a sheet rock hanger.  He'd been writing music in private for years, but it was 2001's Tiger Tom Dixon Blues - a debut album that bridged the gap between folk and Americana - that officially introduced him as a singer/ songwriter, kick starting one of the more acclaimed careers in modern day roots music.  Since then, he has focused on a different kind of construction: building a catalogue of songs that spin stories of hard work, heartache and the human condition.
Since 2001 he has recorded seven albums the latest of which, 'Fortune' was released in September 2015.  With 'Fortune' he focuses in himself, strips bare what he found rattling around his heart and invites the listener to follow a deeper and more intimate journey.  The album has won 4 and 5 star reviews across the UK Music Press.
Live he his thoroughly entertaining, whilst his songs tell a story and make you think, his banter between songs makes you laugh and smile
Support will come from popular Hull trio Farewell Fairground, who are an acoustic band full of uniqueness, harmonies and charisma.  They are influenced by a range of artists such as Kodaline, Mumford & Sons and Kings of Leon.
Advance tickets are priced at £11.00.  Tickets can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com

on Saturday 27th February

Lauren Housley is a rising star of the UK music scene.  She has recently been heard on the Terry Wogan (in session), Chris Evans, Bob Harris and Jeremy Vine shows on BBC Radio 2.

She will be appearing with her band that consists of Thomas Dibb on guitars, Mark Lewis on bass, Chris Hillman on pedal steel, dobro and mandolin and Craig Hanson on drums.
Live, her voice is as powerful and subtle as can be heard on her album 'Sweet Surrender'.  She creates music that crosses over soul, blues, country and rock barriers, whilst all the time reaching out to the mainstream.

DANNY SCHMIDT

performing at

 TOWN HALL LIVE,

KIRTON

on

Saturday 26th

 September, 2015

Named by the Chicago Tribune as one of the 50 most significant songwriters of the last 50 years, DANNY SCHMIDT from Austin, Texas has amassed a cult following for songs that possess stunning poetic and poignant imagery.  Drawing comparisons with Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen, Danny is considered a pre eminent writer, an artist whose songs conjure up magic from the mundane.
His songs are lyrically rich and finely crafted.  They accentuate the narrative, they celebrate subtlety.  They are filled with nimble wordplay and cool cadences, they move with the light feet of a dancer, but in their tone and theme, they contain weight, depth and substance.
Live, his guitar playing is exceptional and a voice that is distinctive and mellifluous.
Everything about the man is gentle, except for his insight is crushing.

For his latest UK tour he will be joined by his wife CARRIE ELKIN on harmony vocals.  Some of you may remember Carrie from her headline THL concert in September last year.  The tour will celebrate the release of Danny's latest CD 'Owls, which is the follow up last year's beautiful duo album with Carrie 'For Keeps'.
Support will come from Harrogate singer and keyboardist Vicky Whelan.  Last year Vicky recorded her latest EP 'Closer To The Sun' with her band Dragonfly Tattoo.  It boasts a haunting blend of fragility and strength.
Advance tickets are priced at £12.  Tickets can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com

Support will come from York based musician Dan Webster and his band.
Advance Tickets for this concert will be £12, and can be obtained from the usual outlets.

Penguin Cafe Tonight Sunday 6 September 7.30pm at Lincoln Drill Hall

Penguin Cafe Tonight Sunday 6 September 7.30pm at Lincoln Drill Hall

The Penguin Cafe was founded by Arthur Jeffes in 2009, bringing together a talented and disparate group of musicians from the likes of Suede, Gorillaz and Razorlight, initially to perform his father Simon Jeffes’ legacy of world renowned Penguin Cafe Orchestra music, ten years after his untimely death in 1997.

Arthur, a talented composer in his own right, quickly began to create new and unique genre-defying music, with the spellbinding philosophy of the Penguin Cafe always in his mind. A uniquely exciting opportunity to hear this extraordinary brand of globally inspired but category-defying music that will bring Festival800 to a magnificent close. Tickets: £16 from 01522 873894

GOOD LOVELIES

Performing @
Kirton Town Hall Live

Friday 26th June

It is exactly two years since the Good Lovelies toured the UK and played Town Hall Live.  Now they are back for a short six date tour of the country and we are fortunate that they have agreed to play for us again, in what will be a eagerly awaited concert for many.  They have a new album out 'Burn The Plan' which sees them on top form.
The Good Lovelies are Caroline Brooks, Kerrie Ough and Sue Passmore.  They will be joined on the tour by ace bassist Marie Josee (MJ) Dandenau, who some of you may remember as being a member of Amanda Rheaume's band when they played here in September 2014.
The Good Lovelies are funny and upbeat and play with a pinch of sass.  Live their good humour, camaraderie and self-assurance shines through.  Throughout their set they constantly swap instruments - acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin and banjo.  With MJ playing bass, Kerrie will also play keyboards and Sue will play drums and percussion.  With each girl taking it in turns to sing lead vocals, we know that their three part harmonies complete the package.
Support will come from Gary Stewart, a singer songwriter from Leeds, who also plays drums for the band Hope & Social.  He was the bassist for Ellen & The Escapades and also plays in a duo with Rosie Doonan.
Advance tickets are priced at £12 otherwise £13.50 on the door. Tickets can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com

Then next time at Town Hall Live ...

THE PAPERBOYS

Sunday 19th July

For our July concert we welcome Vancouver band The Paperboys to Town Hall Live.
The five piece band play a mixture of styles, which is difficult to describe,   Their music rocks and is danceable, but that is not to say it cannot be mellow, slow and beautiful.  It is roots music, it is pp music, it is good music with doses of Mexican, Irish and African Rhythms.  The Paperboys live shows are high energy and accessible and they have built a reputation of gaining new fans after a single performance.  They sell out venues across the world and are just dynamic and will have you singing along and dancing in the aisles.  Don't miss them.
Advance Tickets for this concert will be £12, and can be obtained from the usual outlets.

Wilful Missing

Performing @
Kirton Town Hall Live

Saturday 14th  March

We are delighted to have rebooked Bradford five piece band Wilful Missing to play Town Hall Live.
They were due to headline in March last year, but had to cancel at the last minute due to an illness to lead singer Sam Kipling.
Wilful Missing are uniquely different, their music is beautifully inventive and their song writing intelligent.  Their latest album 'Molehills out of Mountains' is carefully crafted.
On album and in concert they play a host of instruments from cahon to pipes, banjo to accordion & keyboards and drums to produce a rich Americana sound, interspersed with Irish melodies and continental vibes, all underpinned with Sam's cracked vocals.

They describe themselves as alternative, acoustic folk rock, but they are more than that.
We welcome back The Fireside Knights as support. They last played in December, 2014 and we just had to have them back.  We look forward to hearing Rachel's crystal clear voice, Steve's dynamic lead bass and Mark's guitar and mandolin.
Advance tickets are priced at £12 otherwise £13.50 on the door. Tickets can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com
Don't miss it!

Then next time at Town Hall Live ...

Kyle Carey and Luke Jackson

Saturday 11th April

Kyle Carey is an acclaimed singer song writer from New Hampshire, who has taken folk music traditions from America and Scotland/ Ireland and grafted them together to produce something uniquely her own.
Sharing the bill with Kyle will be 20 year old Luke Jackson from Canterbury, Kent.  Luke sings with an extraordinarily rich voice and possesses an astonishing guitar technique for such a young man.  He is a captivating performer demonstrating as astonishing maturity for one so young
