TOWN HALL LIVE - KIRTON  Thanks to all who attended the last concert by The Honeycutters.  The band put on a super show in front on a sell out audience.  Rhiannon Scutt played a wonderful support slot also  You can see some of the photographs from the evening here OUR NEXT CONCERT IS ON SATURDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2017 with THE BLACK FEATHERS with support from PAUL McClure and a special guest performance from KATE ELLIS Doors 7pm, the music will start at approximately 7:30pm The BLACK FEATHERS –‘Mesmerising and stunning in equal measures – gorgeous close harmonies, two voices paired to perfection’. When The Black Feathers last appeared at Town Hall Live, in August 2015, they were just about to release their debut album ‘Soaked to the Bone’.  The album met with critical claim on radio and the UK Music press.  One year later they released a stunning live album ‘Live at the Convent’. The Black Feathers are Ray Hughes and Sian Chandler, who draw their influence from a number of wells, with Americana, folk and indie rock sensibilities co-existing comfortably in their musical world, with Ray’s guitar work buoying the kind of harmonies often only heard in family bands.  The pure emotion and subtle timing of their song delivery is as evident as the enjoyment radiating from their on stage chemistry. The duo got together in 2012 and have been busy touring ever since, enticing and captivating audiences as they go.  In 2014 they released their debut EP ‘Strangers We Meet’ and later that year embarked on a seven week tour of America. They followed that up last year with a two month stint in the States and also supported Eddi Reader on her Irish tour.  They were busy throughout 2016 and it would have been easy to rest on their laurels, but instead have been busy working on new material, which they are planning to release as a set of 3 EP’s before the end of this year. Supporting will be PAUL McCLURE, ‘The Rutland Troubadour’.  Paul is an incredibly talented songwriter with big catchy melodies.  His songs are at times very humourous, rebellious, sometimes very sad, but always honest.  Earlier in the year he toured with his band, The Local Heroes, but now he is back playing solo.  His material mirrors his personality, confident, warm, original, individual and guaranteed to make you smile. Winners of the 2010 Juno Award for Roots Album of the Year, and nominees for the same award in 2012, as well as 4-time winners at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Good Lovelies have been making waves across Canada. The project germinated over five days in the sweltering heat of a North Carolina Summer in a cabin in the shadow of Pilot Mountain at the foot of the Appalachians, was tended to during Autumn transatlantic song-writing sessions via Skype and successfully bloomed in a New Jersey in January as the snow drifts settled, knee deep, at the recording studio door. The resultant record 'In The Shadow of a Small Mountain' is a product of the modern age yet tells stories from both sides of the Atlantic with flavours of the American south infusing tales of a very British sort. Both sing and play acoustic guitar while Vicki also plays electric guitars, manditar, banjo-tar, bass & percussion. The only guest appearances are John Mettam playing drums on ‘SOMETHING BLUE’, Finn Magill (low whistle and vocals) and (from Malawi, Africa) Peter Mawanga (nsansi & chisekese & vocals) on the song 'MALAYA' (recorded by a mobile recording studio in a car park at Swannanoa Gathering at midnight!). She re-emerged on prime time TV show 'The Voice UK 2014' on which she was Sir Tom Jones’ finalist. Rejecting the offer of a deal from Island Records (quick cash-in covers album) she has continued to plough her own furrow with the release of her latest album GHOST GIRL in February 2017. Vicki holds the title of 2008 ‘Guitar Superstar’ having won the Guitar Player Magazine’s annual competition in front of celebrity judges Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Elliot Easton. Norma Waterson, (15th August) is one of the original founding members of the highly regarded folk group The Watersons. Formed in the early 1960’s the band went on to release their first album and highly acclaimed 'Frost And Fire' in 1965 which was awarded album of the year by Melody Maker newspaper. Norma has continued to record and perform both within the different incarnations of the Watersons, Waterson:Carthy group, as well as with her daughter Eliza Carthy who too shares a birthday in the same month as her mother. Eliza Carthy, (23rd August) is as well -known as her mother having grown up in one of Folk’s great family dynasty’s. It was inevitable the gift of music would transfer from mother to daughter and following many successful solo albums such as ‘Heat, Light & Sound’ and ‘Rice’ an album titled ‘Gift’ was released to critical acclaim and featured mother and daughter performing together. Last but not least celebrating a birthday in August is Linda Thompson, (23rd August) who became one of the most recognised names and voices in the British folk rock movement of the 1970’s and 1980’s. Performing, recording and releasing 6 records with her then husband and fellow British folk rock musician, guitarist Richard Thompson, Linda would go onto recording and releasing solo albums, the most successful being 2013’s ‘Won’t Be Long Now’.
