Jackson Announces the Release of the New USA Signature Edition Mick Thomson Soloist™ Guitar

Jackson Announces the Release of the New USA Signature Edition Mick Thomson Soloist™ Guitar

Slipknot lead guitarist Mick Thomson is one of metal’s most successful and revered players.  His game changing, take-no-prisoners approach to metal guitar has influenced countless musicians worldwide, while his black hole-heavy de-tuned guitar sound has been an integral part of Slipknot for more than two decades. With over 16 million records/videos sold and an impressive stream of ongoing sold-out worldwide tours, the Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum band continues to be a dominant force in modern metal music.

Jackson pays tribute to Thomson with a sinister custom Soloist to match the guitarist’s diabolical demeanor, capable of handling his acclaimed aggressive technique and tone.
Premium features include a genuine mahogany bound body coupled with a graphite reinforced through-body three-piece quartersawn maple/rosewood/maple neck—carved to a custom super-thin profile for maximum comfort and high-speed playability, and a 12”-16” compound radius ebony fingerboard with 24 frets.

This signature Soloist is powered by a pair of active humbucking Seymour Duncan® Mick Thomson EMTY Blackouts, customized to complement the complex, crushing riffs Thomson plays in dropped tunings. The EMTY bridge pickup offers the energy and output of the original Blackouts but with Thomson’s custom voicing to emphasize the percussive chunk of palm-muted notes. Designed for crystal clear clean tones, the EMTY neck pickup can also produce more aggressive mids and increased sustain for high-speed solos and ominous melodic interludes when you crank up the gain.

Other features include a fixed Floyd Rose® bridge and locking nut for laser-accurate intonation and ultra-stable tuning, single master volume control, three-way blade and a uniquely angled side jack.

Beastly sounding, it’s also a beauty in a show-stopping Deep Blood Metallic with a matching reverse pointed 6-in-line headstock and black hardware, including Schaller® strap locks and Gotoh® tuners. Comes in a custom Anvil® case along with special case candy items such as a certificate autographed by Thomson, a black Mono Betty long guitar strap, Dunlop® custom picks and a Slipknot tour laminate.

"One of the country’s most consistently admired songwriters" - Folk Radio UK
"Simple, poetic reflections on life and love" - The Guardian
Boo is well known as one of the greatest songwriter performers in the business, but incredibly, its been 7 years since Boo released his last studio album of original material 'God Bless The Pretty Things'. Not that he's been inactive, far from it, the period has been the most productive of his career. Boo wrote Radio Ballads for the BBC's Olympic and recent Child Migration series. There has been a huge array of writing and producing with both established and upcoming artists and passing something on to budding writers via his much loved song-writing workshops. Boo spent three years writing a daily blog which lead to podcast fun with that staff of The WORD (RIP) and invitations to join Radio broadcasts such as The Verb (BBC Radio 3) and a moment of personal satisfaction when his work was included in the radio round up Pick Of The Week on BBC Radio 4. Boo formed the duo State Of The Union with American guitarist Brooks Williams and recorded and released two albums and an EP, live in the studio with engineer Mark Freegard, the duo appeared on BBC1 TV Andrew Marr show performing their cover of Pet Shop Boys Rent.
Boo has written lyrics and played on over 30 new recordings by and with other artists during the period including the acclaimed 2014 album (Vagabond) and 2015 EP (Back The Dogs) with Scottish singer Eddi Reader, Last Man Standing Ep (2015) with Kris Drever of Lau and Duke Special. Reveal Records compiled the first document of his career to date with a fine Best of compilation My Name In Brackets and swiftly followed that with an album of lost recordings found in a box! This album was Open which received five star reviews and was number 5 in the Telegraph Albums of The Year 2015.
His new album Swimming in Mercury will be released in 2017.

Boo Hewerdine
Hewerdine says...
“I felt like I had to wait for the right time to tell some old stories, working on the Best of compilation My Name In Brackets and finding the Open recordings took me back a little, each song a placed me in a memory. I soon realised I had to go further and revisit the time when I was first making music. Taking the bus down to Rough Trade in London with my demo tape Julia, playing cheap guitars with broken strings.
For Swimming In Mercury and Born I have used instruments I’ve not used for years. The process has been more akin to when I was starting out in an indie band. I used my father’s old beat up piano and I wrote some songs with my son, Ben which was great. The lyrics came fast, I trusting my pen.
Boo will also be touring with his band, here is the line-up:
Boo - vocals and guitar
Chris Pepper - drums
Chris Bradbury - guitar and keyboards
Mark Ellis - Bass

Saturday 4th Febuary, 2017

For our second concert of the year we are delighted to welcome back Amanda Rheaume and her band to Town Hall Live.
Amanda, from Ottawa, is an award winning artist with a powerful, slightly gritty, deeply personal and instantly accessible folk-roots sound.
Her increasing success in Canada, Europe and the UK stems from her ability to translate personal stories into messages, evoking a feeling of positivity to connect with her listeners.
In July, 2016 Amanda released her fourth album 'Holding Patterns', which contains twelve descriptive songs some of which champions her native Indian heritage (Red Dress, in particular), whilst 'The Day The Mountain Fell' tells the incredible survival of her two year old cousin from a landslide.
Amanda is a star in Canada, having performed at opening and closing ceremonies of several top sporting events.  She has spearheaded Bluebird North's songwriting showcase and performed for troops in Afghanistan.  In 2014 she was awarded the Canadian Folk Music Award and was nominated for a Juno award for her album 'Catch A Fire'
In November 2016 she toured Germany and Holland and now she is back in the UK for a 16 date tour.  She will be joined by ace guitarist Anders Drerup and Anna Ruddick on electric and upright bass.
Support will come from Pocklington teenager Daisy Allen, who released her debut EP 'Drift' in the summer of 2015, when she was just 16.

Advance tickets are priced at £12.00.  Tickets are on sale now and can be obtained from the One Stop store in the town, from Brian on 01652 649230 or from www.wegottickets.com

BIG MACHINE
Pioneering English traditional folk powerhouse, Eliza Carthy, first assembled the Wayward Band in 2013 in order to explore and celebrate her long and varied career in folk music, ‘the last truly underground music scene’. To do this Eliza put together a team of hugely talented musicians from across the UK and together they hit the road to promote her ‘Best Of’ compilation, Wayward Daughter, which coincided with a biography of the same name. Eliza and the Wayward Band loved playing together so much – as well as becoming a festival favourite – that it seemed natural and inevitable, as well as characteristically ambitious, that this 12-piece would set about recording an album. The result is ‘Big Machine’, recorded at the renowned Real World and Rockfield Studios and produced by the multi-talented Jim Sutherland. The Wayward Band line-up is a veritable dream team of musicians comprising Sam Sweeney (Bellowhead), David Delarre (Mawkin), Barn Stradling (Blowzabella), Saul Rose, Beth Porter, Lucy Farrell (Emily Portman Trio), Will Molleson, Andrew Waite (Tyde), Laurence Hunt, Nick Malcolm and Adrien ‘Yen-Yen’ Toulouse.

The material on Big Machine represents a healthy slice of everything good that is happening in traditional music now, across a sparkling spectrum of sound. The album features three contemporary songs; Eliza’s own “You Know Me” about the refugee crisis and notions of hospitality (featuring MC Dizraeli), a powerful cover of Ewan Maccoll’s Radio Ballad “The Fitter’s Song” (at the behest of Peggy Seeger – and the song which inspired the album title) and an affectionate reworking of Rory McLeod's “Hug You Like a Mountain”, re-imagined here as a duet with Teddy Thompson.
There are also several examples of the Broadside ballad collections housed in Chetham’s Library in Manchester given a new twist with music by Eliza and the band. This follows a programme Eliza presented for BBC Radio 4 about the Manchester Ballads, covering everything from songs about and caused by domestic abuse (“Devil in the Woman”, the sumptuous and searing “Fade and Fall (Love Not)”, to the seafaring life in “The Sea”. Added to that a couple of brilliantly constructed instrumentals, a song about dying from custard poisoning and a heartbreaking traditional ballad “I Wish that the Wars were all Over” (performed live with the band onstage in Real World Studios’ Studio One and featuring Irish superstar Damien Dempsey), and you begin to get the picture. A very big picture, a Big Machine firing on all cylinders.
Big Machine is certainly one of Eliza Carthy’s most adventurous and accomplished works to date – and given that Eliza is the most passionate and groundbreaking English traditional singer of her generation, ‘Big Machine’ is an album you really won’t want to miss.
BIG MACHINE is released on the 3rd February 2017
and available to pre-order now from:
